Can't really help you on the spilling diesel issue, that is just one of those things that happens when you work on trucks. But for future plans you might be interested in what I did on 635's truck w/ FTB mod. I relocated the filter for easier accessability and for the larger OD fuel lines we...
That was a question I got a lot while working at Heath Diesel, especially during times when diesel prices went way up. Still the best but hardest to get at times is the Stanadyne Blue fuel additive for year round use and there Winter 1000 during times when it gets below freezing. Summer months I...
I don't remember how much they were but you can buy the GM box wrenches to do the job and save yourself a lot of time and frustration. Like any specialty tool, you will pay a little more but maybe one of you could buy the original wrench set from GM and then find a way to take cheaper craftsman...
You know I have truly enjoyed reading this thread. You guys raise questions and post points that keep us all thinking. As some of you might know I right a little freelance here and there for some of the different diesel magazines. This idea about pre-cups and head work on the 6.5 has me very...
Man, if I had a tank of diesel for every time I bloodied a knuckle on a 6.5 I don't think I would every have to buy fuel again, or the Navy for that matter. Tomorrow I am going to finish off the Snow system and take the truck on its first of 4 test runs before the dyno event. I will give an...
AirDog fuel pump and FTB mod is complete! Thank God, it took some time but 635 came over today and we got the truck up and running again. Also started making the mounting brackets for the twin FS-2500 filters and mounted the new Snow water/meth pump so I can finish the Snow system up tomorrow...
Glad to know you are enjoying the post. I try and give as much info as I can without spoiling the articles for the magazines. This test will be exactly what you said you liked, everything all at once. Who knows, the old truck migh supprise us all. Thanks for the support!

Finally recieved the two FS-2500 units for the oil and tranny fluid. Both of these will be mounted in the tool box with the AirDog pump and ZEX nitrous bottle.
Delco thermostats are a special pressure balanced version that the 6.5 cooling system requires to allow proper coolant flow. I can't stress using only Delco enough. They are worth the extra money.
If it were my truck I wouldn't go much bigger than the diamond precups. Those things were designed to send a specific patterned flame at the pistons swirl pockets. I know of one instance where a few pistons were put in the wrong way and burned up in no time flat. By making the precup to big it...
yeah, it really doesn't matter who makes it. The DTech style have a thicker potting so they claim to have fixed the internal cracking issue. I have been running my Heath unit with a DTech PMD since they first hit the market a few years ago and have never had any issue what so ever.
From what I know the PMD units from Stanadyne and DTech can have issues from the way they are potted. What I mean by that is when the plastic is poored it can leave different size air pockets insid the PMD. Since PMD's heat up very fast if not placed in a cool location on a heat sink the circit...
I wouldn't worry so much about your water pump unless it is not working and needs to be replaced. Replace your fan and clutch with an upgraded unit and clean your radiator and you shouldn't have any overheating issues. Coolant flow isn't as big of a problem as air flow is with the 6.5. Many...
Before I left Heath I was working with a company that specializes in injection pumps. I was told it was possible to get a DS-4 up to 120mm of fuel but it would require a program to go with it. I had them do it to a mechanical pump for a guy but it ended up not running very well and was really...
Quality machine and balancing work can run at least $1500+. As far as the block filler goes that stuff would only cost about $100.00 and yes we did us it at Heath and in a few other motors I have seen built. It works great to strengthen the bottom end, you just don't want to go much higher than...
Yes we actually have two IAT gauges, one for pre-turbo and one for post-turbo. Trust me we are plenty covered on all aspects of what is going on with the motor and drivetrain.
I am not sure about MaxxTorque but the Diesel World article is schedualed for the April issue which hits shelfs in March I think. Call MaxxTorque and subscribe, they are quarterly so you won't miss it and you will have access to there online magazine site to be able to see every issue ever written.
I have been spending a lot of time working over some universal gauge pods to fit on the dash so everything has a home and doesn't look pieced together. It takes a lot of time, a heat gun, body filler, and paint but it should look very nice when it is done.
