    Too Many Samaritans?

Maybe had I continued living where I did before, in and near big east and west coast cities, I would be at that point too. Thanksfully, I got out of Portland just before the city lost its way. But I chose to move to a gentler place, a tightly-knit community in farm country where neighbors know...

    Too Many Samaritans?

Well done, Fellow. A lot pulling power for sure. So long as you have good traction that arrangement could pull out most things. I've never used a hydro winch. I use a Warn MT12000 which seems to work for me well enough. How do you like the hydro?

    Too Many Samaritans?

You should definitely be set. I get a lot of ideas by watching Matt's Offroad Recovery YouTube videos --- my favorite entertainment these days. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwdVOry0oNF9WIe_3uCfz9Q. Matt uses a kinetic rope for nearly all his extractions. It stretches a lot more than a...

    Too Many Samaritans?

Getting stuck yourself, especially in what appears to be a totally hopeless situation far from potential samaritans, and then someone showing up out of the blue to save the day is like getting a vaccine. Once you have it you know what it feels like and you naturally have the inclination to do...

    Too Many Samaritans?

I'm thinking a 4 inch strap and a flashlight is all you need for 80% of the extraction situations you might encounter. I usually go overboard and add a lot more equipment to the mix, but looking back, I think a good strap is all that was needed for most of the extractions I have done.

    Too Many Samaritans?

Bizarre. I'm guessing the officer was looking down at the laptop putting your license plate number in the computer and when he looked up he got an even better view of your truck. Weird. I presume the local station made it right with you for the repairs. LE probably would have responded quickly...

    Too Many Samaritans?

I'm posting in this category, General Truck Uses, because of an experience that happened tonight involving "truck uses." So I was out driving with my teenage daughter and we were talking about safe driving for teens. It is on my mind right now because I mentioned it in an earlier post today on...

    Fault code 29

Yes, those welded hinges made things more difficult than they needed to be. Another thing I noticed, the cabling and attachment points of the door interiors are different, even though they are GMT400 doors, which meant for quite a bit of improvising to fit my old door handles, upholstery...

    Fault code 29

Good to know about Bosch glowplugs. I'll go with AC Delco 60Gs next. I'll probably just go ahead and replace them. I'm wondering about the harness too. Thanks for your suggestions.

    Fault code 29

WarWagon, thanks for the suggestions. Yes, I get a glow plug lamp still. My grounds seem good. I'll use a volt meter and go through more troubleshooting steps.

    Fault code 29

Yeah, I've checked, cleaned and tightened the GP relay connectors. That was my first hunch. The relay seems okay. My hunch is that it could be the cables, but I'm still looking into it. The glow plug dash light goes on still. The engine warning light goes on and off intermittently. I...

    Fault code 29

Thanks, Fellow. Yeah, mechanically my Suburban has been running fairly well. There was that incident with the 16 year old. She was on her phone going through an intersection and failed to stop. She slammed into my driver's side, severely daming both doors rendering them unrepairable. I replaced...

    Fault code 29

Hey Fellow. Nice to hear from you. Yeah, it has been a long time. Too long. Life has gotten kind of busy and complicated for us, but thanks for the comment. I've missed this group.

    Fault code 29

Hi. My 1994 Suburban with a 6.5 turbo diesel threw a 29 code which appears to be related to the glow plug system. My glow plugs are Bosch replaced about 8 years ago, with a new GP controller. The vehicle has 235,000 miles on it, has a relocated PMD, and a high capacity Powermaster alternator...

    I've decided to do a Cummin's conversion

Good move. The Cummins swap would have been difficult but possible, and it would have also been a time and money pit.

    I've decided to do a Cummin's conversion

Taking on this project is not for everyone, as it will likely involve more than a few surprises. But you have shown not to be shy about taking on big projects with your Burb, so it may be a nice, beefy project to sink your teeth into. You have already upgraded your front suspension with stronger...

    I've decided to do a Cummin's conversion

Fellow, why are you going this route? I thought you were one of the maestros of the GM diesel, a sorcerer of the six five. What are the main drivers of your decision?

    Hello, All!

All cargo trailers. Usually a single-axle 12 foot open. Occasionally a dual-axle 20 foot enclosed and rarely a triple-axle 25 foot open trailer. Oh, and a dual-axle boat trailer. I try to limit the heavy loads to under 90 miles, and this one was just about that far when disaster struck...

    Hello, All!

Point taken, Will. I probably used the term "bullet proof" carelessly and definitely did not mean it literally (except, possibly, on opening weekend of the deer hunt in certain counties in Utah when bullets do fly uncomfortably close to my Sub). I am looking for a solution that is VERY unlikely...
