4l80e hard, hard shifting "neck snapping"

Yeah, I am sad that this trans is not going to work. But, it does feel good that you guys and thefermanator figured it out. Thanks! The suburban is our back up vehicle. And we got everything moved, so I can do the swap at a easy pace. I am considering trying the rebuild. I purchased and...

4l80e hard, hard shifting "neck snapping"

Hmmm, it has 2 speed sensors. I compared it with the removed transmission, exactly the same. On the drivers side one located above the big plug and the second above the shift shaft. Also verified one on the transfer case, passenger side. Am I right in reading the trans tag that it is a 1995?

4l80e hard, hard shifting "neck snapping"

Rebuilt trans from Phoenix, shipping should not be to bad to San Francisco area? I tested the key off resetting today. Drove a few miles from work to lunch - hard shifted. From lunch to work (started, waited 5 seconds and turned it off, restarted) -normal shifting. From work to home, about 20...

4l80e hard, hard shifting "neck snapping"

OK, so I am not afraid of making some modifications, and I have always been interested in learning more about automatic transmissions. But I now see I made the mistake of not doing my homework before buying this transmission. Unless the trans tag shows it is older than I was told, I'm screwed...

4l80e hard, hard shifting "neck snapping"

Alright, you guys are giving me valuable information. I will get codes and check trans info tag for date code next. I need to know what year trans I put in the Suburban. I will also verify the grounding wire to the block/head. I still have the old/removed trans, maybe I can use parts (solenoids)...

Thanks! It does kind of feel like a shift kit, hard to believe since it random. At some point it sounds like the pan is going to be coming off...

4l80e hard, hard shifting "neck snapping"

Alright, some heavy duty questions! I put on some engine mods over 15 years ago. Shorty headers, Airaid air filter and a Jet performance chip upgrade. When I installed the trans it was plug and play. Did not change shift shaft or trans plug. What is PCS? Did I get a 1996 Hummer engine/trans...

4l80e hard, hard shifting "neck snapping"

I put new filter and fluid in when I installed it last year. I have only 600-700 miles on it. When I purchased the trans I was told it had 50-60k miles. The filter I removed looked fine.

"I hate transmissions" - Yes I agree with this statement. I am researching converting to a manual transmission... No I did not make any modifications to the TCC. I will look for codes tomorrow. To read OBDl codes is shorting pins 1 to 12? I'll have to look that up. I kind of agree with the line...

4l80e hard, hard shifting "neck snapping"

I have a problem with my 4l80e transmission. It shifts very hard through all the gears and especially hard on the 1-2 shift. It is a 1991 Suburban, 3/4 ton, 4X4 with 244k miles. Original engine, 350ci runs great. The original owner replaced the trans at 100k and I took ownership at 190k. I put...
