    PCM Replacement?

Thanks for all the tips! I went through the grounds in a big way when I first started having issues a year ago, but will not hurt to check again. Going to be near Avant Salvage on Thursday, they always seem to have 6.5 parts, might just pick up a PCM while I'm there to save a trip if a good...

    PCM Replacement?

Tim - you're deep South! Waycross is about 5 1/2 hours away from Rome, up in NW Ga. Beautiful country down there. Is the glow plug controller the relay? ECT sensor is about 1 year old, less than 5000 miles. Glow plugs are also new, replaced last summer with only 1000 miles or so until it...

    PCM Replacement?

Can a PCM just go bad with age? My 94 has 280,000 miles, has had ongoing electrical issues since I bought it 2 years ago. Latest to crop up is the glow plug relay is not getting a consistent signal to activate at startup from the PCM. I can hook up ScanTech and activate the glow plug test -...

    Need some engine harness tips

I'm confused - big difference between $35 and $300. Are we talking the same thing?

    Need some engine harness tips

Thanks for the tip. I bought the I/P from Pensacola Diesel, will call them Monday to check. Was there a tech/service bulletin to reference, or part number?

    Need some engine harness tips

Close to losing what's left of my marbles. Been fighting problems in my engine harness since buying my truck almost two years ago. Kept getting error codes 13, 17, and 18 for fuel solenoid and optical sensor faults. Thought I had it tracked down to a bad I/P - replaced it and still had the...

Second CDR Valve in 12 months

:biggrinjester: Yeah, pretty sure she wouldn't go for that. With the miles on this truck, I'm wondering if I jumped the gun by purchasing a new CDR and just not a victim of blowby. 247,000 or so. Also, screwed up the Permatex valve gasket, so got to pull the injector lines AGAIN this...

Second CDR Valve in 12 months

Picked it up at the local NAPA this morning. $42 including tax. Asked if there was a warranty, fella said it was the first time he had ever been asked that for any part. I'll hold onto the receipt just in case this one burns out as well. Waiting for the Permatex Ultra-Black to setup before...

Second CDR Valve in 12 months

I tossed the receipt, think it did come with a warranty. You can bet THAT won't happen again!

Second CDR Valve in 12 months

Great idea to check the bolts - wouldn't that be great if its that easy to fix! Back to the CDR - anyone know what casuses these units to fail?

Second CDR Valve in 12 months

I've developed a bad oil leak, seems to be coming from the driver's side valve cover gasket. Fabbed up a manometer and found the crankcase was under pressure at idle (pushed about 3/4" water in the tube), went back to "neutral" when I revved it to 1500 rpm. Was leaking at that point, so makes...

    Wastegate Fault with Turbomaster

To the best of my understanding, ScanTech calculated boost pressure as the difference between barometric pressure and pressure inside the intake manifold. Both readings are taken by the MAP sensor, barometric reading taken as soon as the ECM gets power from the key in the "on" position and kept...

    Wastegate Fault with Turbomaster

Don't have gauges, but run GMTD ScanTech regularly to check all readings. My boost has always been low, no higher than 2 psi when heading uphill under throttle. Don't typically haul or tow any big loads. Running stock airbox and exhaust, so figured 2 psi on light duty wasn't a big deal...

    Wastegate Fault with Turbomaster

Now that I've got the truck running good and have bypassed the wastegate solenoid with a homebuilt turbomaster, I'm getting code 78 (wastegate solenoid fault) flashing on occasion. Any way to fool the ECM so a code doesn't flash?

    Preferred choice of oil

Man, glad I asked! Any opinions on synthetics?

    Preferred choice of oil

Wondering what weight of oil is best for these trucks? The cap on the engine states 15W-40, seems awful heavy. Down here in Georgia, freezing temps are never an issue, would think a lighter weight oil would be better on the engine components. Thoughts?

    sluggish truck

I had the same codes, along with excessively long crank times before it started and running like garbage. PCM is operating in limp mode due to #18 code. I first tried a new PMD relocated under front bumper, did not help, so followed up with a new IP as both #18 and #36 are tied to a bad optic...

water to air intercooler - part 2

Chris - did you turn the upper intake manifold 180* to route your pipe from the turbocharger? Any clearance issues with the fuel filter, "connector center", etc?

    Wastegate solenoid problem

SS Diesel has these available for ~$50-60. You could also build a simple turbomaster out of about $10 in hardware from Home Depot and bypass the questionable vacuum system. Lots of info here and DP to walk you through it.
