Today I ordered a set of tan seat covers for my 96 gmc truck with the 6.2.I also have a center console on the way with cup holders.I threw out the original tan Center console many years ago as it was in pretty rough shape so I tossed it.Both items are coming from Amazon.

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

I always liked using the stanadyne performance or lubricity additive.

It’s also very easy to break the face cam on the throttle linkage. If the pinch bolt is overtightened it can break the face cam.

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

The standard volume pump is more than adequate for the 6.2.

I’d just buy a new pump with screen. The 6.2 never did use a high volume pump.Only the 506 6.5 diesel which had the oil cooling jets above the main bearings.

I’ve used both types of bolts.Never had an issue with either.Normally no additional sealer is needed. Its already preapplied when you buy them.

    5.7 diesel up and running

Today a few more parts arrived for this project such as a new flexplate/converter cover,2” intake spacer with felpro gasket. Not long ago I purchased a new cluster lense and printed circuit as what I have is in terrible shape. Some of the bulbs don’t make good connection and it’s just plain worn...

New valves are best but you’d still need to get the seats reground to match the angle of the new valves.

I’d use the green plastigauge and see if you have .002” clearance.

    5.7 diesel up and running

Today I did get the coolant filter and housing mounted to the inner fender.I realize it’s overkill but I’d like to give it a go.I have some brass Y fittings on the way from amazon to make the installation that much easier.I figured a petcock would be useful to expel any air if it gets trapped...

I always just poured some sort of household cleaner into the ports. If nothing runs out the seal is okay. The valves should not leak. You could make a test plate if you wanted and induce air into the port.Either way will work out perfect.

Those are the proper tools to install the seals👍 I find engine assembly lube makes it much easier to install the shaft into the pump once the seals are on it.

    Definitely.I will do that also👍

In regard to the head gaskets choosing the proper gasket will depend upon on piston protrusion at TDC.The 5.7 diesel is checked in the same way.For the 6.2 I believe if protrusion is .006” or greater use the thicker head gasket.Someone here will know for sure. I’ve never used the copper spray...

Inspect the valve keepers closely. If they are in good shape reuse them but toss them if they have any wear.I would keep everything together as it was taken apart. It doesn’t matter which way the springs go.

I like those cast rockers.I have those on my current 6.2 and I also have another set I would like to install on the 1987 rebuild I plan to start on very soon.

Very nice job on the cleanup.I don’t see any visible cracks between the valves either👍
