Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I saw one of you guys mentioned filling the intake/exhaust ports with fluid to test if the valves are sealing up after the lapping job. I was thinking about some way of a preliminary test without making a mess like maybe applying air pressure into the ports. I have made rubber tips for my...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

iirc @Will L. had talked about this add-on. I seem to recall they might do more harm than good. your engine is running v-belts and not a serpentine belt system which is a reverse rotation. I don't think you have a worry about balanced coolant flow. both of my trucks have the serpentine...

    5.7 diesel up and running

That I would think would be fine, only thing I would also do is apply power to the fuel shut off solenoid and spin it so it's pumping some of that oil out the injector line ports making sure it's all though out the pump.

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

@dieselolds I ordered one of the kits you linked for the IP. are there any special tools I need? like a tool or sleeve to install the shaft umbrella seal? I saw these looking on amazon, but idk if I need one or if these are right for my IP...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I found a set of the o-ring type valve stem seals on the jungle site that I can have here by Monday, so I ordered them so I can at least get the heads back together hopefully by the end of this weekend. (I'm off on Monday's now from work)

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I managed to get all of the valves lapped on one head this evening and almost all of the springs and all cleaned up using my ultrasonic cleaner. I still have 6 more valves, springs, and all yet to clean. a couple of the valves have a small amount of pitting on them, but they cleaned up and...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Thanks Will. I will take another look at #3. are the felpro head gaskets better to use than the full composite ones like Mahle shows? and if going with the +.010 thicker ones, will that harm the compression ratio or have a power/economy loss over standard?

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Starting to look up gaskets and things I need to get this engine put together. I may take some items off or look for them on the jungle site to try and save on some cost, but other than the oil pump and HB, what am I missing? I see differences on head gaskets too, I figure stay with the...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Here is the video I used to learn. he's doing a small block chevy and it starts around time stamp 34:23 and goes till time stamp 50:13 it's over a 2 hour video. I like watching his videos! one of the only reasons I pay for youtube premium so I can watch shows without any ads!!

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Well what do you guys think? are these good or do I need to lap further? I spent about 5 minutes on each of these two valves lapping by hand. I went until the grinding sound almost went completely quiet. though I noticed that when I stopped and re-applied more compound the grinding sound...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Question for you guys. I am going forward and cleaning up all of the valves, springs, keepers, shims and all and start lapping the valves. Obviously I need to keep the same valve in the same hole in the head, but do I need to keep the springs, keepers, shims, and whatnot all together with the...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I forgot to mention that these heads also had the cast iron rockers like the other one too!

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I think I am gonna have a big pile of leftover parts to get rid of once I finish this project! two 6.2's torn down in the garage! I'm running out of room to move around LOL I may strip the 6.2 that's cracked and send it to the scrap yard. not unless there are things in the block that would...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Well I got the other 6.2 torn down, pulled the heads off. these were much cleaner and a whole lot easier to clean! I got all the valves pulled and gave them a good bath with the power washer. This time I didn't sling grease and crud all over myself and everything else around me HAHA...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Will mentioned that they aren't hard to go through compared to the electronic ones. so long as the adjustments aren't messed with. I have three here two of which have not been tampered with those adjustments. The one that was tampered with is on my 93 still running.

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

That would be awesome! I will need a timing cover with the CPS for the aftermarket TCM and having a set of known good lifters is a good thing!

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

@dieselolds I know you've done some rebuilds on IP's, would you know a reliable source I can get a kit for one of these IP's if I were to attempt to rebuild it myself? the IP I posted pics of has sat about 10 years on this engine and I'm sure it will need to be gone through before trying to...

    My son's 1968 Chevy

That's very interesting. I hadn't thought about that. This engine being a straight 6 still has the intake and exhaust manifolds that bolt together and allows the lower parts to be heated by the exhaust. I do have a plate that would block off that as well as a set of tubular headers that...
