How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

If it is just the sensor- you’re not. If the oil pressure is dropping- stepmone is checking oil level. Feel consistency of the oil, make sure it’s still thick, and no fuel mixed into it. Low pressure for one of these reasons needs addressing.

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

This is where a WORKING low coolant alarm is an engine saver. Engine running at 200°, loose coolant & the temp gauge will take forever to drift to a cooler level, meanwhile the engine isn’t getting the coolant it needs and the engine gets smoked. A working low coolant alarm tells you to pull...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Those can be hard on the threads. Rule of threaded rod tools is: hand tools only. I break that rule often, but I don’t cry when I ruin one from it also… Just like Roy Rogers- go easy on Trigger.

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

Holy light bulb moment Batman! Remember when the hard starting and extra smoke in the morning began? The day after that switch got broke is my bet. I was focused on that you got it hot. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Betcha that is the hard start & smoke show the whole time- not counting the battery/alternator...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

Yes- that rear temperature sensor with the two wires- this is its job: 1. Tells glow controller how long to run 2. Tells db2 to advance timing for easier start and get fuel in the cylinder sooner since it all isn’t burning away yet. 3. Tells throttle advance solenoid to hold the idle slightly...

It’s all how they made the die portion and reduced drag where ya can. That little dab of grease on the threads & under the nut flange helps. Long handle GearWrench ratcheting wrench helps - It isn’t a hard job, just annoying.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

I lube the threads to make it pull easier. Make sure the oval die lines up with the opening. Quality ones like the OTC are good. Cheap ones will cause tons of headaches.

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

Yes, 12 awg is the smallest you want. If going 100’ then go up to 10 awg. Your cold starts- cycle the key a few times: Turn key on until glow plug light goes out. Turn key off, quickly Turn key on until glow plug light goes out. Turn key off. Quickly Turn key on until glow plug light goes...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

From the video we can hear the batteries are under charged. Driving down the road that’s the voltage- yes you’re alternator is likey dead and you wont make it 2 more days… Alternator swap is easy. Find out what parts stores are in area you are moving to and buy the lifetime one from that...

Best coolant for 1996 GM 6.5L

Ok, my favorite picture w/ the hoodscoop before I did the big brushgaurd.

Best coolant for 1996 GM 6.5L

Yeah- its called a hoodscoop. The front grille opening is deceiving in pictures because we are used to seeing the front of a normal truck. The headlights are 7” diameter- compare to front grille opening. Almost no air comes in there, and what does is hitting the bottom area of the radiator...

Best coolant for 1996 GM 6.5L

The cooling stack in hmmwv/Hummer is actually amazingly great. The problem is they are layed down at a ridiculous angle- worse than corvette or any other vehicle I ever seen. Then complicated by the miniature entrance angle that gets less and less airflow the faster it goes down the hiway with...

    Duramax Alternator

Ok good. I thought it was a “have to get one to drive the rig now” thing. As mentioned here https://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/threads/how-do-you-all-get-6-2s-to-300k-miles.52560/page-48#post-702057 Don’t be afraid to carry in your battery tester.

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

When I do this in the autoparts store- workers are confused and managers not happy. I learned a $5 bill goes a long ways. Showing up when they don’t have a ton of customers also helps. They don’t have to do anything- you shuffle the batteries. Usually they only have 4-5 of the correct...

Misfire or broken parts 6.5 diesel

Pictures and or videos help a ton. Temp sensor in the rear of the head can make starting harder in really cold situations but if you plug in the block heater it will overcome that issue easily. You could chase this for a long time trying to reinvent the wheel of diagnostics. We kinda...
