Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I prefer brass for the larger plugs. They are the ones that fail first and the brass ones can’t rust like steel.

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

On the temperature control, I would say try a new AC Delco or Robert Shaw 180°thermostat. Keep the old one. I’m no help on the rear window.

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

100% DO NOT add that kit. What thermostat are you using?

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

If doing head studs it matters to NOT use the felpro if doing the silicone to seal the stud threads. Using head bolts- doesn’t matter which, they are both good. Yes the thicker gaskets will drop compression a small amount. But because you are not surfacing the heads or block deck- there is a...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Look super close at #3, i think I see the beginning of a crack- but it could be the grains of the picture because I am looking on iPhone. Even if it is- run them. Maybe the brass insert might be worth it. The large valve 6.2 heads with the cracks, keep them imo. Those are worth doing the...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

NEVER RUN MARVEL MYSTERY OIL. NEVER EVER. I don’t care if you are disassembling the engine same day afterwards. It is an abrasive oil- like cutting oil. Anything it can do good- you are better to dump in gasoline. I had someone send me the specs on some of the XPD stuff the one that is...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

NO EMMULSION! Xpd has better ratings. Being a db2 ip- i run atf. We don’t need our fuel clear like the ds4 guys. When installing new fuel filters- I fill mine up with atf. That smokes for a bit but it’s healthy for the ip & injectors

    Suggestions…recommendations needed drive line

When the sealed ones stay sealed- the grease doesn’t “wear out” and there is no way for it to leak. The only time anyone should even consider a greaseable ujoint on anything is if you drive a lot of miles then while hot you submerge it in a river/ stream crossing where it will be submerged in...

    Any opinions on PPE filters?

You don’t want a low micron filter as a primary filter- oil, fuel, etc. oil especially because a little dirty oil is way better than super clean oil that doesn’t get there in time. Running a bypass filter is great- there are a few brands that are third party certified. My plan is one of the...

    My son's 1968 Chevy

My wife says - anytime I think I did something 4 years ago, double it. And I probably paid triple from what I remember. So for the miles I put on a rig- that’s probably 4 times what I am remembering!

    Lower Intake Thread Repair Solutions.

They hmmwv ones do flow better- but I forgot about the mounting bolts, instead of 6 they only have two bolts. Also the egr block off is snazy.

Remove that flashing as well. Once the flashing is all out, you can choose to spend a little time taking the edge off the oil return holes. Doesn’t really help a ton- but for 5 minutes more per head is worth the time imo.

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

If ya have a press you can rebuild the waterpump. Pop the seals out and head to napa to match up.

Yep- replace the pigtails. It’s annoying but once done-the issues are gone.

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Yes that’s the compound to use with the suction cup tool. Search youtube how to do it with a cordless drill. Faster, easier, you probably already have a cordless drill. On gaskets- obviously ya need head gaskets and the crankshaft seals. But timing cover, waterpump, valve covers, intake...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Don’t try reaming the tops of the cylinders unless pulling the pistons replacing rings. Remember the ridges at the top are not something built up on it- it is the amount of the cylinder wall that has worn away. I think he needs input from others who ran small precups with turbos and had good...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Nothing identified on those precups- I think those are the really tiny ones. It shouldn’t smoke too much with stock fueling and gm turbo kept around 10-12psi boost… but it might leave a bit of a cloud if you stomp it from a dead stop.

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

For some reason I missed the post with them cleaned up. Good, disregard the dmso option. Those heads are desired because the valves flow better. But what precup is in it can determine what turbo it can handle. Read about small precups and using bigger turbo like hx40 by @WarWagon and when he...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Our favorite Russian buddy always recommends the DMSO- but man you have to be fully covered when using it. That stuff drawe chemicals through your skin into your bloodstream. My memory is not much longer than my pinky toe, but I think the difference is of 1.94 versus a 2.02
