 x2
The previous owner (PO) installed an add-a-leaf, and also upgraded to Billstiens in the front (don't know what shocks are in the rear). The PO may have also cranked the torsion keys, but I am not sure about that.. Why are these bad ?
One thing I noticed: my truck's ride is...
My truck sits a little higher than other K1500 6.5TDs (I make this observation after driving other trucks when I purchased my 6.5). I am wondering if a previous owner (PO) changed the torsion bar keys and other suspension components.
How do you tell if your torsion keys were changed?
I...
I think that he might mean "fuel manager unit", aka "fuel filter manager" (FFM; what the manual calls them at least :smile5:) for our beloved 6.5's. Just a guess.
TD: given that you have the 10 micron Racor, do you ever have to change the fuel filter in the stock FFM, or does the Racor do...
It sounds to me like everyone gets rid of the GM lead spacer that goes between the battery cable connecting the two batteries in series. Is it useless? (I see that most people have just put the two battery cable ends together without anything in between).
Thanks for the info Minisub. I just realized something: I have never had a lead spacer between the two positive cable ends (on the passenger side battery). Perhaps this is part of my problem, and has resulted in a bad connection.
Thanks RadioMan. In order to facilitate solid contact and the battery cable ends, do people use a copper washer in between the two (positive) battery cable ends that overlap on the passenger-side battery?
I ask this b/c the battery terminal bolt that holds those two cables (overlapping)...
For those of you who have done this mod, are there problems using stainless steel bolts? Does steel conduct electricity as well as the stock side-post bolts?
My battery side posts bolts are copper or brass (which are not cheap btw!), and, as I understand it, copper is a better conductor of...
I was just thinking the same thing!
Regarding the engine pictured in your post: Is that a zip tie holding the rear passenger-side fuel return line to the black metal bracket? I always wondered what those holes were for.
Yeah- I can't get under the truck until Saturday, which is the day I want to do all the work (and the parts place needs at least one day in advance to order it).
Thanks for everyone's help. Based on your input, I expect that I do have the 14 bolt rear diff cover, but I also followed Pillow's...
I just looked up my VIN sheet:
F44 -- CHASSIS, HEAVY DUTY
GT4 -- AXLE REAR, 3.73 RATIO
G80 -- AXLE REAR, LIMITED SLIP (POSITRACTION)
It looks like my question should have been: Does the 3.73 gear ratio differential have 10 bolts or 14?
Thanks.
I am trying to order some gaskets from my local auto parts retailer, but my truck is inaccessible until this weekend (at a friends- he is out of town).
To order gaskets for my front and rear differential, I need to know if the 94 K1500 "S" 6.5TD, auto trans, came with a 10 bolt or 14 bolt...
Aces- where would I find Viton? None of the local parts shops (i.e. auto zone, kragen, etc) have it. I've searched for hydraulics shops, but there are very few within a reasonable distance. I've sourced it out online, and it looks very pricey (is it possible that it sells for $15/foot??)...
Thanks for the tips guys.
This whole "4 row vs 2 row" radiator core issue is still confusing me. The person who looked at my radiator said it was a 4 row. I understand this to be 4 rows of tubing going from tank to tank (and the tanks are plastic). When scanning the catalogs, it looks like...
Yeah- I wondered about that. Is one leak an indication of more to come? It would be great to hear from people who have fixed a leak (i.e. soldered off a leaking tube, used epoxy or JB weld to stop the leak, etc.) about their rad's longevity after the surgery.
Thanks for the suggestions so far.
My radiator is leaking (verified by a pressure test) and appears to be the original radiator. Other than looking old, the rad has been thoroughly cleaned (one of the first things I did after purchasing it) and I have not had any high engine temps since cleaning the rad and replacing the coolant...
I have just replaced the rubber fuel hoses that supply fuel to the fuel filter (manager) and send unused fuel back to the tank. Both of these hoses are about six inches in length, and sit at the rear of the engine (just next to the OPS). They both attach to the metal fuel lines that run into the...
OPS connector
Here is the best shot I could grab tonight. The OPS connector is brass and is in the center of the picture. Sorry about the shoelace- don't ask why it is in there :p
If anyone has tips for removal, please let me know. I'll just go right in on it Friday, and post my update...
