    remote mount fsd

I won't mount it where everyone thinks is the best location. I'll get the water and salt mixture all over it in winter and water in rain. That salt crap eats everything around here. We"ll see how it works out. Also easy to change if it does go bad.. It's not like they can't take any heat.

    remote mount fsd

I purchased an SS Diesel FSD heat sink before finding this site. From the problems posted, I'm going to move it to behind the coolant bottle on a mounting bracket and after some thought, I'm going to install a small 12 volt muffin fan on top of heat sink. These fans are cheap and of right size...

BBC starter? Will if fit 6.2?

If you use a 6.2 or 6.5 nose piece, the olds 5.7 diesel starters are the same. I've swapped some. The guts are identical, except for the nose piece.

    Spun main bearings

You've got some rod bearings bad. Spun mains will either block oil to rods or loose so much pressure as to starve rods or pass bearing debris to rod bearings. remember that rod bearing lubricating holes in crankshaft go from main journals to rod journals.

    Need new cyl head fast

make sure you have two dowels in place. they keep the head/gasket from moving around. Can cause early head gasket failure. I remove them to clean up the block. Use a drill bit that fits tight to id of sleeve and use vice grips to remove. Rotate slightly while doing a lifting motion. When I...

Timing is Off, Can't Set It

If you get it advanced by a tooth, the engine will be very LOUD at idle.No mistaking the difference in sound Retarded by a tooth and it will be quieter than usual and somewhat sluggish.

Low boost and poss blown h/g

if coolant at 15psi can get into engine cylinder, then I would think that 400 pounds of compression can get into the cooling system. With a dry intake manifold, no coolant is going to get in there.

    duramax fan clearance

Curious...how many have had to trim shroud for fan to clear? How many let fan make it's own clearance?

    Need new cyl head fast

If you have an engine hoist, stick the boom in there and let it lift out and set in. If you don't have one, Harbor freight has them cheap. Hook to center of head so you can pivot it around to set down straight. Have someone to run the valve on the pump. Anyone good with a torch can burn out that...

Low boost and poss blown h/g

One sure way to spot leaking head gaskets; look for bubbles coming up in coolant/ overflow bottle; after refilling and running it for a couple of miles to work air out. bubbles won't be huge, but consistant and will continue while engine is idling. This indication has been the same since the...

Socks or no socks lets chat about it

With the old 5.7's and 4.3's, and 6.2's, I eliminated the tank socks with no ill effects. Used a short piece of fuel line hose to make sure I was at bottom of tank. Do not use a gas engine tank sock; it is much finer and will plug in a short time. Fuel storage tanks are much cleaner now than the...

filter fuel tap or "T" on line to IP?

Please change that piece of tubing to a flexible hose before it fails. At certain rpms, that setup will act as a tuning fork for engine vibration and cause a failure. That is going to be a lot of fuel blowing around on a hot engine. Personally, I'd mount a sending unit down on the frame in front...

DS4 IP rebuild time(mechanical aspect only)

Got the truck running; no more leak. BTW, what is the effect if the optical sensor isn't quite in the correct location? (Slightly advanced or retarded?) Not me- IP. I already know I'm retarded

    repairing cracked heads

This may be old news, but Goodson Mfg. sells a kit to repair issues with cracks between the valves. I have used the kit on three different engines several years apart; 82,86 and 94. You remove those tiny freeze plugs on the intake side of head. There is a small drilled passage that allows water...

Hard To Push Manual Clutch Pedal NV4500

two things. Did you install a new pressure plate? Yes, I think you said so. Did you replace the disc? I think yes on this too. Did you use a new flywheel or a used one? If used, did you have it surfaced? If not, it will cause chattering if surface has hard spots on it from previous use. Also...

DS4 IP rebuild time(mechanical aspect only)

Well, did the pump today; made some notes at disassembly. It is all back together now sitting on bench. Glad I had done many of the older pumps, as there were some similarities. The inner shaft seal is a bugger to slide the shaft through. Had to use a small screwdriver to spread lip to get it...

Need help with AC system on 1990 5.7

If you have the short big around compressor, it could also be the large oring,s that are under the outer housing. Check the source of leak carefully.

Hard To Push Manual Clutch Pedal NV4500

There is a fact of life about clutches. A properly matched clutch disc, pressure plate, and release bearing when assembled, places the clutch fingers in a center of travel position of the spring tension either from the diaphragm type pressure plate or the three or four finger type. As normal...
