jFaire,
It may have been a '96 tranny, everything but the lockup worked just fine. When we put it in the later model truck the lockup worked perfectly. I got another for my '93 out of a '92 and the lockup worked prefectly. I read somewhere about the change to a different TCC solionoid in '94...
Not trying to argue, but i thought the modulated TCC started in '94. When my tranny was acting up in my '93 a couple of years ago i took the tranny out and swapped it with a '95 4L80E. The TCC didn't work right, so i took my original and the '95 tranny to my usual tranny guy. We noticed a...
I put a GM-8 on my '93 in place of the GM-3 it had. Makes boost a little quicker, and was a bolt on install. Fabbe'd up a turbo master in place of the vacumn canister, works like a charm.

Being able to twist it isn't really hard evidence, you'll have to closely look at it and see if a portion is broken or cracked. DO NOT attempt to remove it without air pressure in the cylinder, maybe 100lbs or more. Last time i removed a spring on the engine i used a compression tester i screwed...
Do you mean the valvespring is loose between it and the retainer? if so, look for a broken valve spring as they should have lots of tension on them. Sounds like you found your "ticking" as if it's loose, then it dosen't have enough pressure to "push" the rocker/push rod back to the lifter thus...
Kewl, i'll get one of my valve cover tag and the FSM specs & post those. There may have been different numbers for Fed, CA..etc. I know mine has the original engine, last 6 or 7 digits match the vin.
Don
I think what they referred to as S Vin was California with emissions. My books cover all emissions but at times don't seperate. You should be ok if you do a manual glow/cold advance circuit, not sure about the VSS as my manual lists that as ECM input.

93 FSM says
Well i decided to have a look at the '93 FSM and see what it says. I scanned 2 pages, first for all '93 diesels and second for '93 with manual tranny. I would attach these, but the scans exceed the file limit size. Seems pretty clear i was mistaken on some points (not alone there...
The ECM on the '93 controls the lift pump, glow plugs, and auto tranny. It also monitors the tranny VSS and feeds the speedo, and i think the tach. The manual tranny's have a different ECM program than the auto's.
Don
I think that's correct from what i remember when my temp sensor in the crossover was bad. If you wire it straight up to the temp sensor, the glows would be on solid until the engine temp was above like 87 deg F. You'll need the ECM for the gauges as well i think. Without that the VSS, tach..etc...
You'll also need the engine throttle cable bracket, the throttle cable and the cable pedal assy as the '94 and later is different. I might have an extra throttle cable bracket, i think there's one in my 6.5 spare parts box. I'm in the process of converting an '06 military IP from 24v to 12v...
On my '93 the temp sensor/switch in the crossover feeds the input for the glows and ip cold advance. If you want a wiring diagram, i can see what my FSM says. Let me know.

The diesel and gasser cruise stuff is the same for the '92 and '93's. I've got a '93 3500 6.5 with cruise and a 93 1500 5.7 with cruise and aside from the engine bracket the cruise stuff is identical. Since they made a bunch of 5.7's and 5.0's it might be easier to scrounge that off one of...
The way it is seems good to me, BUT here is a suggestion.
Put the body styles in their areas, 87-down, 88-2000 for electrical..etc.
And PLEASE a parts for sale and parts wanted sections in the 6.5 areas as we all seem to have stuff laying around or need something.
My 2 cents worth.

That sounds like good advice, i just had to tear it apart and have a look. The IP i haven't really looked at yet, i've been working out of town but will be back this weekend if i don't have too many "honey-do's" i'll get on it asap. I'll re-assemble it with either studs or new head bolts...
Good info, I had intended to replace those crankshaft and balancer seals, but didn't think about the valve stems. Also in the torque-spec area here, tjhey have the main bolts i was concerned about at 30lbs - which sounds a lot more reasonable.
Thanks
Don
Hi there guys,
I recently got a GEP engine, i tore it down to have a look before installing it in my '93 Dually. The bearings look mint, cylinder walls still have the crosshatch and heads look nearly new. The piston tops looked new when i wiped them down with a little wd40 and a paper towel...
