Ashton, thanks for the clarification on that one, learned something new today. :) I was ALMOST sure my installation instructions for my lifters said not to use synthetic, but the diesels have roller cams, so no worries.
DieselCash, IMO the cleaner the engine, the better. I wish I had a...
x2 on not running at a constant RPM. When I was breaking in my 383 stroker, and driving on the highway, I was always speeding up and slowing down.
You should also not let it idle for long periods of time (constant RPM).
Also, do NOT use synthetic oil, conventional motor oil only. Synthetic is...
I wonder, the GM-8 I just got also has a missing heat shield, I wonder why people take them off? Dieselsmoken33, where do you plan on getting a heat shield from?
No apology needed, all is well and good. :smile5: I just stopped at a couple body shops to see how much to do the bodywork on my hood, one place didn't even want to do it, the other wanted $1500 to do it, so I guess I'll be doing it myself yet again. :rolleyes5:
And yes, I am the one who is...
You are correct Ratman, I am 20, and there is only one other kid I know that has any knowledge of older stuff. I hate electronics, and love simplicity. I'm just getting used to all this computer stuff after I bought my '96 Chevy. :D
I know I said it before... but this is the coolest car ever, a IDI Diesel Camaro. What do you think a boosted launch would be like in this beast? I'd think I was losing my mind if I heard a Camaro pull up beside my truck, and sound similar to it... only with a little less turbo whistle.:D
379M-V6, I assume it's 379 cubic inches. I think the 500 CFM would only help it gain power overall. Normally putting on a bigger carburetor looses you some bottom end power, but in this case, seen as how you have 379 cubic inches I think you'll be fine.
Now I don't know very much about these...
This adapts a 2 barrel 500 CFM Holley to a 2 barrel Rochester carburetor that has one small bore and one large bore, like half of a Quadrajet. There was no adapter available that did this, so I had to make one, and no I'm not a machinist. Lets just say it took a lot of drilling and filing.:D
I'm pretty sure I know what you are talking about, wait until later today and I will snap a picture of my adapter and tell me if that is the one you are looking for.
I lubricated the inner steel shells and new main shafts (the shafts that the bushings ride on) with Pure Nickel Special Never-Seeze before I had the shop change them. This was on my '87 GMC, but similar design. Cost me $800 CAN total.
I also provided all the parts, along with new re-enforced...
There is a guy in Sarnia that runs a mobile chassis dyno (brand new), that's where I did my '87 GMC. Very good guys to work with, very reasonably priced, and only a short drive into town for me, that is where I am taking my 6.5 for testing. Here is a video of their Dually Duramax making a pull...
I know, I know, I can't wait either, but with barely enough money to buy the engine, I would only have enough left over to fill it up with fuel once, and do some dyno runs.
I gotta keep most of my money right now until I start working again, so that I can afford to pay my lawyer.
Yes, if you look at my '87 GMC in my garage (oops wrong site), major brake upgrades are on the list to be done, among other things, as I will be towing a large goose neck trailer with it, 40'+.
First I will be performing a strict highway fuel mileage test with the new GM-8 turbo, Turbo-Master, and stock intake.
Then I will dyno with the new GM-8 turbo, Turbo-Master, and stock intake.
Next I will dyno the new GM-8 turbo, Turbo-Master, and my custom intake manifold.
Following this, I...
