    frost plugs and block heater

As far as removing freeze-out plugs, I was taught to run a big self-tapping screw into and use a slide hammer/ dent puller to yank it out. Great idea. Unfortunately, I have yet to actually succeed using that method. Usually winds up coming out with BIG screwdriver, BIG hammer and lot's of...

    Antifreeze question?

Yes- That's all there is to the plumbing.

    Antifreeze question?

I put the valves at the filter to minimize the coolant loss during filter changes. I figured the 3/4 to 3/8 reduction and subsequent filtration would probably meet the restriction requirement. But I suppose through valves position you could "dial in" your flow. I keep forgetting that not...

    Antifreeze question?

Ball valves would do the trick too. I guess there's a million ways you could plumb this- whatever is to your liking, I guess. As far as they bypass part, since the coolant flows to the heater core(s) and filter simultaneously, I would presume that would make it a bypass. If you forced all the...

    More holes in front bumper?

Only other note on PA inspection- they lights must work and be wired so they only go on with the low beams and automatically turn off when high beams go on. Many inspection mechanics don't check this, but if you get one that's "by the book" they'll fail you. I knew a PA inspection mechanic...

    Antifreeze question?

It's a bypass. If I could draw anything but a stick figure, I'd sketch it. I have a "CAD for boneheads" software package. Let me see what I can do.

    Antifreeze question?

Yeah, it's a sub with rear heat. Complicates the plumbing and still bothers me that I haven't figured out how to "clean it up" yet!!! Plumbing as follows: Water pump heater outlet to TEE connector. 1 leg to filter, second to heater core(s) a sub will have another TEE to split front and rear...

    More holes in front bumper?

Justin, I don't have a PA inspection license, but the code reads like this: 75 Pa.C.S. § 175.209. Chassis. (a) Condition of chassis. All items of a chassis shall be in safe operating condition as described in this subchapter and Subchapters E—H and J. (b) Bumpers. A vehicle specified...

    Antifreeze question?

Borrowed a camera, but it got dark before I could snap good pictures. I do have a pair I'll post to hold you over until I get back from work tomorrow.

    Antifreeze question?

Pruittx2- You are correct. The mount has 4 possible orifices. I Used valves with hose fittings to minimize adapters and also so that when you change filters you don't lose a ton of coolant. Adding another valve in-line to the bypass can also be used to force all heater core coolant to go...

    Antifreeze question?

Okee dokee. I have to find my camera 1st, but I'll give you the details. 1. Filter Mount. Many people use the kit from NAPA. Never had success with NAPA. Avoid them. Their kit comes complete with fittings and clamps. It's like $50 I used a BALDWIN model CFB5000. Made in China (DAMN IT)...

    Antifreeze question?

My unscientific opinion is this: 1. A lot of contaminants exist in the system regardless of coolant type. Casting residue, metal flakes, solvents, etc, etc. 2. No antifreeze lasts forever- though the manufacturer acts like it does. 3. Tap water is full of crap. I only use distilled. 4. Bypass...

    Rebuilding a GEP Engine

When I swapped mine, I used the old pump. The tolerances were good, and I wasn't about to try to swap the pick ups. The pick up and pump did not work with my existing pan in my suburban. My "new" motor with the "old" pump make plenty of PSI.

    The optimiser I didn't know I had

Yeah, that's the 3rd crushed valley drain I've seen. Can't be a coincidence. Not exactly sure how the crushed tolerance in measured, but it doesn't flow very well! As far as oil pumps, the GEP engine I got had a very different oil pump design compared to the other 506 that came with the...

6.5L 5spd 2wd CCLB DRW, buy it someone! to far away!

If you scour the junkyards in NE Pennsylvania you can usually find them. They are beat to hell when the State finally offs them. The last one I found was so picked over there was nothing left for me to use. Early bird as the saying goes.....
