Even keeping it IDI... the only original parts will be block, heads, and glow plugs. Even still, the block and heads will be heavily modified. Not a single other part will be factory, not even the oil pump shaft. It makes it kind of hard to compete in the unlimited classes with guys that change...
I have a twin turbo Duramax that I am building :D
Another problem, I could stroke it to 427 cubic inches, but then it would be a 7.1l engine... that doesn't make it a 6.5l anymore, but block and heads are basically the same?
They put small block Chevy heads on Chevy inline six engines, and...
From what I see, they are close enough. The block deck will be plugged and new holes drilled into it.
As for the bottom end, mine will be stronger than a Dmax bottom end. Yes, it is a lot of work, and yes I could use a P400 block, but I'd have to buy a complete engine to get the P400, and it...
A simple question, what would you guys still consider a 6.5l diesel if one were built to the nines?
As in the ONLY stock parts are the block, accessories, and small odds and ends like that. Assuming the bore and stroke stay the same of course (save for a .020" possibly. Thanks for your input.
You could make your own mold out of casting sand, be it water bonded, oil bonded, natural or synthetic, and you can in fact melt the iron enough to do this at home. There is loads of information on the internet about it.
There is several different materials you can make main caps out of, this...
Thanks 3500GMC! No they haven't got back with a quote yet, but I am going to stop there Monday, because I figured out a way to reduce machining costs a lot and need to inform them about it. I'm also going to give my engine builder/machinist a copy of the prints to see what he can do it for. I'm...
I believe the reason Bison said it would blow the head gaskets is because about 1/2 of the precup overlaps the head gasket, which if not there would surely burn the gasket out.
One thing that I find interesting is that a smaller port would create a higher velocity of burning gases exiting the...
I considered it for a few minutes, but decided that a one piece billet bottom end would be the strongest. Waiting for the quote on this from the machine shop, should have quote by Wednesday.
Yep, those are actually where the original oil pan bolts went, but these will be 10mm ARP studs. The oil pan I'm making will have a new bolt pattern of it's own. I'm going to the machine shop tomorrow BTW.
There is just about 1" that should have to be trimmed at the bottom of the rad support, it might fit in the upper brackets, I forget now. You can only make it 1" wider than stock without having to hack the radiator support pretty good. Any performance radiator shop should be able to do it, they...
