............and while you are looking at the flex plate, turn that 24mm bolt again, mine had many of the same symptoms as yours including good oil pressure, but when I was able to move the bolt back and forth without the flex plate moving.......supposed to be a solid piece of steel in the middle!
FYI
if you choose to do the Summit parts route, you will need plenty of wire ties and clamps to keep the braided hoses from rubbing on everything!
Summit p/n
Cooler BMM 70266 = direct replacement ( screw holes and everything) with 1/2 NPT instead of o-ring
SUM230810 = 10 ft -8N stainless braided
SUM 220890 = -8N swivel ends ( reusable)
SUM 220847 = -8N to 1/2 NPT adapter
I used the straight -8N to NPT adapters and then used...
Go to Summit Racing, B&M makes a direct replacement cooler with NPT threads. I used -8N fittings and stainless braided hose from them that mirrors the Lubespecialists kit and the whole thing was about $170.00
I may still have the invoice with all of the part numbers, I will look tonight.
We were able to get it to -1.41 by snugging the nuts tight and bumping the turning tool.
I notice no difference in starting or driving from the -2.20 it was set at.
( only drove it home)
I totally respect Bill Heath's recommendation of -1.94 but I wonder if you need a dyno to see the...
When I installed the new engine, I aligned the pump to the same reference mark as the old engine. It started and has run great for 1600 miles now. I finally got it to a GM Tech ( who does side work) that knows diesels and has access to the GM Scan Tech. I asked him to get it as close to -1.50 as...
The stock cooler uses straight threads with an o-ring seal. I bought a B&M with 1/2 inch pipe, 10 ft SS braided line, -8N fittings ( 2-45* and 2-90*) for about $170 from Summit Racing, did the trick and the cooler bolts using the same mounting holes.
Gentlemen
I was slightly flamed by my statement to buy "new", I am also a man of experience when it come to engine building. I spent 15 years building Cat, Mack, Cummins and Detroit engines. I also played in the BB SB Chevy drag wars and even wrenched on a top fuel car.I completely agree with...
Do the math. Add the time money and risk associated with used weak parts. The GEP longblock starts adding up at $5,750...... sad but true. Just my opinion!
Back in May I was driving to work, about 30 miles into the trip I turn from a 2 lane down a slight ramp and merge onto a 4 lane perfectly flat road.
The engine starts getting loud, no knocks, just loud like the exhaust was falling off, checked all gauges Ok, then 1/4 mile later it shutters and...
