i have a 95 that I am working on that has a very touchy throttle as well. I have had it in the garage for a few days for other problems but I did find a broken ground wire so I will take it for a drive tomorrow and see if the broken ground was the problem
After finding this thread i realized that some one replaced the plug to the alternator and the pins where in the wrong place. Took plug apart and moved to correct spot and tach works like it should http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/index.php?threads/32998/

The tach does nothing never tries to move from whatbi remember these are ran off the alt i happened to have a spare off a 95 that i tried and it dosent do any thing either. Can i check for a signal voltage coming from the plug on the alt to try and see if i have bad wires or the gauge its self...
Two good batteries seems to have been the missing part to my puzzle. Seems strange that it would crank over but the glows wouldn't work

The batteries are not very good i will try a different set out of my truck. I didn't use a meter but test light shows voltage at controler

Our suburban is having some issues it started very intermittent but has gotten worse lately.
