Initial impressions:
Finally brought it home last night. It started on it's own, cranked slow but caught easy. Don't know about these new batteries, but the gauge reads 14 volts. Glow plug time seems long too. 4wd works, I brought a chain but after shoveling 2+ feet of snow off the top of it...
well the Fisher didnt work out, so the Blizz is in the shop getting welded and plated up, trying to sqeak by a little longer. The left slide box on the rear rotted and the trip part tore right off. Plow was about ready to fall off the truck. Going to plate over the back and then re attach the...
plow is junk. I'm scrambling now to try to get a conventional Fisher mounted on my 82 before this weeks storm. My Blizzard angles left and right and pushes snow, but it only lifts about 3 inches because the pivot pin is worn out (again). The box is rotted and cracked on the left side and I have...
Still havent got the Burb home, and I cant get rid of my 97 until plowing season is over. But now I'm torn over what to do. I dread the thought of trying to save up the money to do all the 6.5 mods over again, especially the ATT which is the most costly. Part of me wants to strip the truck down...
had this problem with my 82, pulled the check plug and shot atf ten feet. I didn't even think it was supposed to have atf, but my gm guru who owns nothing but 454/th400/205s insists it should. Pretty sure my old 203s and one 205 had 80/90 in them. It was the seal between the trans and t-case...
I'm real glad it's 4l80e, I know what abuse those will take. It's a 2500, and asfik all diesel subs were 8 lug. I bet with a 97 airbox and cooling, an att, kojo and 4 inch exhaust it will tug my 5 ton camper easy. If not, I've still got the 82 crewcab 454 for that.
Just had to share this here, because no one else gives a damn, but I know I can count on you all to be happy for me. Been wanting a Sub for a long time, and recently thinking about retiring my old workhorse 97 dually.
Started looking for a diesel Sub and only one on CL, all of a sudden a...
that was one plan, if I coulda found that 99 Sub again that needed motor work. But I really cant afford to keep the dually and get a sub. Plus, I rent now and am only allowed 5 vehicles, and I'm already over that so something has to go. I am going to hate to see the ATT, Kojo and Diamondeye...
well, first off, I need to say my frame is fine. Secondly, Kenny, take a deep breath and calm down. There, that's better. I appreciate the help, but you went off like a bottle rocket, was worried about your blood pressure. I see you have the same Craigslist-truck deals addiction I have. Thirdly...
Now you've given me an idea. Not the Minnesota one, I can't use a 2wd and I can't get it here. Maybe I could use the sheetmetal and the crossmembers, would certainly consider it but shipping would make it not worthwhile.
BUT, I've always wanted a 6.5 Suburban... Maybe I could find one that...
Been having a tough year with the old truck, it needs so much work. I love this truck to death, but I'm wondering if it's time. I replaced the bed last year after a tree fell on it, now I wrecked that bed by backing into a tree hard while plowing. My fuel tank is held up with ratchet binders...
I've been thinking about the computer controls for the 4l80e. I have one in my 97 and it has been great. Thought if I ever came across another one it would be cool to put it in my 82 gasser. As I understand it, the 4l80e is based on the th400, so it should bolt up to the motor ok. Would it bolt...
well the trans and t-case are pretty dirty, there is a lot of crud in that area because the t-case vent was working and spewing the overfill coming out of the trans. So all the dust and dirt stuck in it and caked on. The truck was mostly driven on dirt roads, so it is mostly spotless except...
when I had the trans back to change the flexplate, I happened to check the transfer case fluid and found it was overfull, right to the top and had been coming out the vent also. I crackedthem apart and replaced the seal between them, which had obviously failed. I didn't know whether the fluid...
think I might pass. its got a quarter million miles on it, engines half apart, dent in one door and a window shot out of it. Don't think I could sell the wife on it.
Thanks for popping my balloon Buddy. I realize it's not comparing apples to apples, however I still feel like I'm ahead because with all my mods I still am into my truck for under 20 grand, and that includes the $15k purchase price, which by the way I paid off years ago. Additionally, my truck...
Two positive things happened recently. I was walking through the lot at work with a contractor, he owns an F350 DD and his work truck is an F550 4wd bucket truck with a rear mounted winch. Kind of a cool setup. Unfortunately we were walking across the lot because the F550 puked it's tranny. So...
