Check your tq wrench. It's possible your over torquing them without even knowing it.
Do you retorque them after a few miles?
Where are you buying the new studs from? Possible china junk?

I take the bolts out of the box and wiggle it until my puller fits on. I have a nice snap on puller that's slim and fits right in there

My take is the only thing you gain from using the u bolts is the ease of changing them out when they break. With the bolts you may end up with one stuck in the threads, with a u bolt you could just push the piece out.
What year truck did it come out of? Could be a 10bolt as GM used them in the 3/4 ton 4x4 trucks right up to the IFS changeover. They started in 79-80 depending on model and availablity

I think the ATT just needs more air than the filter and housing can deliver. It seems every time I pop the hood to check the oil the filter guage is tripped showing it needs replacement. The filter is a new Wix filter, maybe 3 months old. I hate oil filters but I need something better.
