Your budget & application counts. Everything Doug said above is on point.
If you pay for oil testing you will learn how often you need to change it based on your use. Different environments, condition of the engine, and how you run it makes a big difference.
I have worked in oil& fuel...
Yeah- that Restore brand is the one that had the third party testing on that showed it actually brought back some of the lost compression.
Using larger cans than called for doesn’t help - it hurts because too much of it gums up on the oil passages. So use the right size.
The fuel pressure is ok for it to start. You are probably starving the injection pump when on the highway. When you get back to it next season- get the fuel pressure gauge T at the injection pump inlet. Watch it from there. If at any time you get under 4psi- know that it is wearing it out...
Dead standing trees is normal here- forget to water them and POOF they are dead! Haha
I have a dead one in my front yard from a plugged water drip nozzle, but it’s barely enough to make a few splinters. Some decorative tree the wife wanted.
I have a dwarf grapefruit tree and a meyers lemon...
@ak diesel driver
First- thats awesome!
Many years ago I helped an uncle chink a log cabin. He said that after many years pass the logs dry out and would need to rechink. He explained why window & door frames get slotted mounting instead of solid all the way around.
All the building here is...
The lift pumps that went on the 6.5 rigs were designed for an older injection pump that didn’t require as high pressure. GM was pinching pennies and kept making tiny improvements to the lift pump, just enough to make Stanadyne who make the injection pump honor their warranty while the rig was...
I don’t think becoming a used hmmwv dealer is smart for everyone- there is risk and descent investing required for that.
But for a guy who knows mechanics well, already owns the tools, has the time and physical body to do so- flipping one or two in a year could be worth the effort.
One example of a normal priced moderately done up hmmwv from a normal used car lot.
There are companies that after having done 10,12 they put huge money into the really fancy interiors, huge sound systems, perfect paint jobs- and as a legitimate used car business- and they sell them for way...
I have come to the conclusion it is a mistake buying a take out engine from the military.
There was a large campaign to update older hmmwvs - basically refresh them regardless of if the engine was good or not- to get them all up to the turbo power and 4 speed level.
When that was happening there...
Directly with that- here are trucks up for auction:
https://www.govplanet.com/Pickup+Trucks
HummerH1 (eric) buys hmmwvs at the cali auction- he can tell you about the process.
Ok- the lift pump isn’t doing the greatest, but should not in any way be a problem.
You measured the pressure AT THE INJECTION PUMP INLET, right?
Anywhere else is invalid for the diagnostics.
Let that fuel settle for a day and examine it. Looking for any contamination to settle out on the...
You have to flip the coin about as is vs rip apart. Then do it. Don’t buy anything, don’t borrow anything. Rip it apart and go from there.
The only thing I would do before ripping apart is the water down the intake trick to clean out any carbon that is there first. That will do in couple...
Yes the rings will seat- not as quickly as they should, but they will.
In the drawing above we he dotted lines were the original cylinder walls. The wavy lines are what the worn cylinder currently is. If you use a 3 stone hone, you cut away the wavy part inside the solid lines. The idea is...
6.2. Vs 6.5 differences- oil pan, crankshaft, pistons, cylinder diameter, rear main seal, injectors. Then like always- the exterior accessories can be all over the place.
As for truing up the cylinder walls with a flat stone- that is what a 3 stone cylinder hone is for. The problem with it...
If you pull the pan and pop open rod caps- looking for obvious damage/ wear and can use plastigauge as a clue - then MAYBE rod bearings can help.
You don’t have to undo the main caps for that. But I can’t remember doing it all in a pickup. I’ve done it in a hmmwv and a RV. They don’t have a...
