Yup- factory was oil pump drive. The term was ESS Engine Speed Sensor. It uses a two wire sensor. In hmmwvs that have a turbo and db2- they use the same crankshaft cps trigger unit that has 4 prongs (drawing a complete blank on the proper name). But the cps that is used in ds4 is a 3 wire...
Which fuel line?
If rubber- get sae30r9 or greater. This is critical because the older fuel line doesn’t withstand the ethanol & methanol in modern fuel. They deteriorate from the inside out.
If this is what has happened- stop using the rig until you have replaced 100% of the fuel lines...
Has it always had this issue since you bought it or is this new?
The black smoke is unburned fuel. It can happen from air intrusion, but 95% of time is lack of oxygen to burn all the fuel. That oxygen is supplied by air flow- so a restriction in air filter, or lack of boost.
The ATS turbo...
Engine temp #1 killer agreed. Never over 220, running 180 is best.
If you loose an oil cooler hose thats instant engine death. I believe in high pressure hydraulic hoses like a backhoe uses.
Harmonic balancer is critical- depending how unbalanced yours is to begin with is big.
Unfortunately a...
Exactly what was said above. Except the spare plug- before installing it you fill the back side with silicone and let in cure before installing on the spare unit. This is how you keep it clean.
If you have a working pmd now, then only buy one. But drive in the new one from Leroy because it...
Some zinc is good but it’s easy to get too much. Many oils already have zinc in it.
Too much does more damage than having none.
Playing diy chemist usually brings bad results.
In a little while I can go take a measurement/ picture for you on mine.
There is a specific tool made to add the timing mark to new covers. But it’s basically a jig to hold a chisel part in the right place.
The V mark is something someone did as a diy- that isn’t the factory mark for timing a...
Usually people put a toggle switch somewhere close to the fuel filter because that’s where you use it most often. Install new filter, turn on switch until full and air bled out. Then turn off.
GM testing procedure calls for one pint every 15 seconds. The computer controlling the run time...
Nope. There is specifications for ohms, amps, etc. that you can do. But I proved those tests are invalid.
As ohms (resistance) go up so does the amps.
In the fleet we would do the quick amp test then ohm test rather than down the trucks. It would measure fine but still not work well...
What’s next? I’m gonna kidnap him and tie him up to my hummer! Haha.
Seriously though, I miss having the high production on projects that you have (mine is long gone). If I had that ability back- I’d spend half of it with my family instead. Doing things like the truck for your dad aside-...
Ok boys- get your minds out of the gutter and back into the trash can with the rest of us. Haha
The reason I was thinking not to mix them all in at once- seems to me the chemical is basically doing a task. Put in one now and let it do that job, make those improvements the best it can then...
Imo either get the factory kit that uses the clamps or go to a Mercedes Benz dealership and buy the hose by the foot that was used on the om603 engine. They still set it and it is the best push on hose there is for this.
—>DB2
But I doubt you want that route after investing in the ds4ss.
Hook up the power source via your battery clamp connections and add a volt meter with it so you see if that power or ground drops out any during the crank?
Just how pdm pins have an issue after so many swaps, the obd1 port...
When buying the fuel hose- use SAE30R9 or greater to withstand the ethanol/methanol that is now added in to our diesel fuel. Without it the hose deteriorates from the inside out. The original hoses used by GM,Ford,Dodge is NOT rated to handle it in any of the diesels older than early 2000...
