My 2005 Yukon XL

I had hoped to paint the base plates, but im just not going to have time. More snow slated for Monday, leaving this afternoon only to get it back together. I shoulda been doing this over the past summer but procrastination bit me. I am liberally using anti sieze and Fluid Film. All the hardware I got was stainless but only time will tell on the quality.

Mocked together for now. I need to get them at least back on the headgear before tonight making few minutes runs outside. Its blistering cold.

Do you have any issues with your plow chattering when plowing? Especially when lightly loaded? I've tried all the positions of adjustment and no change.
I thought that was created when the cutting edges is more to 90* angle to the road surface. Like the cutting edge is too close to being verticle.

Is it possible to create some extra adjustment so it can lay back farther ?
I do remember that the one way plow on my truck, if it was wearing more at the heel then the plow needed to be rolled farther forward, toe, back more.
When a cutting edge is laid 90* to the surface it rides against, the the cutting edge is at its maximum cutting energy.

I do, but only in minor situations. Do you run shoes on yours? I run them on mine, but at a setting that keeps the cutting edge about 1/2-inch above grade.

When I have cars run through the snow and pack it down, then I have to plow with their tracks present, it does catch and chatter a bit. Much worse perpendicular to their tracks. Thats about the only issue I have with chatter. If I plow before the snow gets packed, no issues at all.
 
Does yours have an actual cutting edge on it? Mine didn't when I got it and was worn down to the point that I was concerned about getting the cutting edge on securely. Maybe it changed the geometry?
Mine does have a bolt on cutting edge. It does have a little wear on it but I've got a good 3/4-inch plus before the wear gets to the trip edge. The Fisher HT has a 75-degree "attack angle" properly outfitted, I do know some of the newer plows have 3 different adjustments. Per Fishers website, a 55-degree attack angle is recommended for gravel, I guess there is a 66-degree universal option, and 75-degree for best scraping efficiency on asphalt.

I could see the angle changing without the use of a cutting edge. IIRC the cutting edge new sticks down around and inch-plus below the trip edge proper. Removing the cutting edge and having a worn down trip edge I could see the angle becoming steeper in my head, but I'm no engineer.

What brand/model is your plow? I assume a Fisher with trip edge setup?
 
Ok, its most likely a MM1. I had the complete mechanical cable valved hydraulic version of the MM1 on my '94 Silverado.

Is your A-frame setup parallel (or close to it) with the ground? This is the piece with the angle rams on the sides connecting the main blade pin to the headgear.
 
At the DOT, for some reason, they called the area thst the cutting edge bolts to, “ The Frog “.
IDK if thats a proper name for it but anyone wearing a cutting edge into the frog was called a lot worse things than froggy.
We started drilling 3/8ths wear indicator holes in the cutting edges just above the carbide that was sandwiched into the edge of the cutting edge.
Any time a cutting edge got close to those holes then the edge was changed out.
But those were three piece edges.
If one of the three wore more than another then the operator would swap the edges left for right, but they did not have the capability to flip them over. The square for the bolt was on one side only.
 
I don't think this ever had a bolt on cutting edge until I put one on it.
You did good with that.
The cutting edge on this old IH dozer is wore right next to the frog.
Its not going to be cheap to replace that.
I just hope that the dozer blade on these other dozers, I’m going to be looking over, are in better shape than this one.
I do have an offer that after I get this old machine back together to haul it to a gold mine over in BC and do some light duty pushing of tailings and such with it.
Guess I better get my passport renewed. I’m game if they pay fuel to get me there.
I’ll also need to be shopping for a trailer rated at at least 25,000 pounds. Dozer scaled at 23,900. Have a truck that now can handle the pull.
