How many v8 diesels are marketed today WITHOUT a center mounted turbo...
It's not just flow restriction and balancing flow (those are of benefit however) but you also get a shorter path from the exhaust valve to the turbine wheel as well as the ability to run a functioning twin scroll exhaust...
Good luck!!! Sounds like a fun project. Consider the possibility of a better flowing pre-turbo exhaust setup (read-slightly custom) sounds like the effort would be well worth it in a project of this magnitude.
I would bet dollars to donuts it is. To my knowledge holset/CTT only have 1 single scroll turbine housing for the 35/40 chra and it's on the hx35g so don't expect the 40s turbine wheel to fit the housing without some tinkering
You don't need a qsv to spool an hx40. Unless it's got a huge uncommon turbine housing, a tune for said turbo should be all you need. If you want to pick up some boost threshold with that setup, look into ceramic coatings, manifold porting, exhaust wrap, turbo blankets... Basically anything to...
He could, but he's concerned with the AT&T not flowing enough air. Using it as a the big turbo in a compound setup won't help. With as much fuel as he's talking, an hx40/ht60 setup sounds pretty reasonable.
The other thing not mentioned is that, sure the db/ds pumps may not put out a ton of fuel in stock form, if you increase the efficiency of the combustion, you require LESS fuel to hit your target/goal so a wussy pump is less of an issue.
I've decided to compile a list of parts available for the Holset turbos out there. These part numbers have been verified by me to be available from ANY CUMMINS DEALER OR DISTRIBUTOR. All you need to do is give the parts guy this Cummins part number and he can order it for you. No pricing is...
No exhaust is the best exhaust [for power] on a turbocharged engine...
Not sure how or why exhaust length or diameter would make any difference... Especially since idle speed is monitored and controlled by the ECM. Or am I wrong? It's happened before :)
