its the pancake looking canister on top of the intake underneath the cover. it has a rigid vacuum hose attached to it. remove the vac hose and plug the hose.

Mine did the same thing and it was the egr valve...you can test it by unplugging the vac hose from the egr and pluggin the vac hose with a golf tee and electrical tape or even better, a screw. take it for a spin and see if that does it.

i saw an older case backhoe that had an ether port on the intake man. ruined two winters ago by someone who didn't know what they were doing with it. tried to spray and start it alone...i told 'em. soon it had a hard time starting with ether as well...right up to the point where it seized up...

what about regular veggie oil? (not WVO) it's cheaper than motor oil or 2 stroke...

Wow...so that's like a pint every tank? do you get the cheap stuff?

Does anybody on here put New (not used) motor oil in their fuel as an additive to lubricate the fuel system?

well, i jumped the gun and you were right BK...i plugged the egr and hose and when i first started this am it was dumping smoke still, but it cleared up after about five minutes and the knocking went away. hallelujah. now i just have to deal with the smokescreen i get when i punch it on the...

i plugged the egr vac hose and valve, still black smoke...the wastegate lever has quite a bit of pressure when running, i can move it but it takes quite a bit of effort...does that mean the problem is NOT with the wastegate solenoid or vacuum pump?

I have read that about injectors, although the white smoke thing caused me to disregard that as a potential problem. I don't really understand the stuck open thing either...do the individual injectors themselves have actuators? I believe I understand the basics of the turbomaster idea. Say...

thanks for the tips guys...i'll get on that tomorrow. I had searched all the black smoke threads i could find and no one mentioned any knocking that only occurred under acceleration and that really was my concern. NVW...did your truck knock like that? thanks again fellas.
