I put some HID headlights in my back up light. Talk about bright. Its one of the best things I've done on the Super Duty.
I have an 05, but put the 08 taillights in it.
I am going to be offering a totally plug and play kit for this mod. This kit will work on 05-09 Super Duty trucks. No cutting of any wires so you can put it back to stock if needed.
I added a switch inside the bed (No drilling) so if Im not in reverse and need a work light (hooking up a trailer...) I can turn them on.

Below is a picture I tried to get of the bulb in the housing.

Any interest?

It looks like the Return Wire is facing up. That's not good for an HID Bulb. It should Face Down for correct Firing.

Are you using a Relay Harness (tapped into Trailer Harness) for the Kit?

Yea, that was a good eye and good catch. Easy fix, I will be doing that tomorrow.
Mean while for your viewing pleasure

Those are the new back up lights.

dang, blinded by the light...I sure would liike to get some HID's for the front and back...

I think the next time I see Nick, he'll have HID backups... any others think the same? ):h

No, I dont think so. While I will admit that my interests do fall into the lighting field, I dont personally see where these would be worth the money. For what little time you spend in reverse, they would never fully get up to operating temp. If I drove around in reverse all day, then sure...):h

I'm just curious to know what type of bulbs these are though. If they're 3157/4157/4114k or anything similar to those, then thats good news...That means what works in there, will work in our DRL housings.

Sorry for the delay, I was gone all day yesterday.
The bulbs I use are the H1's. These are 4300K. I wanted a white light, but any color range could be used.
As far as being useful, I think once you try them you will really like them (weather I do it or you come up with your own). I love being able to turn them on for work lights. I've never liked mounting other types of lights under the bumper for extra light so this work out great.

Good man.

Just try to get that Return Wire to face down, and you'll be good to go.

Got the return wire fixed up. BTW,I love your avatar.

We are going to be coming up with another kit for the 88-98 Chevy/GMC trucks also. After that I'd like to try 99-up Chevy/GMC

i would love to have these in my truck, if they trow off that much light! when plowing, the more light you have when backing up, the better!! it just comes down to a cost factor, and like nick said, how long do they take to warm up? im not sure what he difference is between cold and warm. i have never seen them up close, and wonder how they operate.

They are at full brightness in just a coulple seconds. The same as if you turned on your HID headlights.
I have installed this same kit in a couple other Super Duty's now. The owners love them.
On the Fords the light socket is seperate from the wire harness. Can anyone tell me how the 99-07 and 07 & up Chevys are done.

Fords are like the picture below the plastic light socket plugs onto the harness

This is 99-2004

Ken

i havent had a chance to get mine out yet, but from what i can remember, i think it is similar to the fords. maybe 3 "hooks" instead of 4

Ken

any new news on these? do ya need pics of the parts on the chevys?

Still in the works, I have a 08 lens for some mock up and bought some other parts for the kit. Just got to find time.
Thanks for the offer if I need some I'll get with you.
