CV Axle Boots

The mechanicals of the axle seems to be ok. No bad noises or such. No clunking or vibrations.
Just a torn outer boot.
I have not yet removed the shaft from the car to verify the aforementioned conditions but it will happen today, I think.
Anyhow, if the CV joint checks out is it worth it to change just the boot ?
I have read stories about people attempting this operation and the boot dont seem to want to hold under the clamps.
I D K but I think that could be because there was grease or oily substance left on the axle to boot surfaces.
Am I right, wrong or partially either way ?
Replace just the boot or replace the entire axle. Our choice in this town is Cordone or NAPA, whoever does the ones for NAPA ?

I saw a video of a guy using plastic wrap. The kind you use for shipping packages.

Got the wrap started and apparently had somebody engage the front wheels and let it eat. That looked like it would work, to me.

Absolutely worth it to replace the boots. You want to use thermoplastic boots, not neoprene which never last more than a couple years.

What vehicle is this on?
 
Yup, got the car in the garage.
Lower right Ball Joint shot and the CV axle boot on left side.
Decided to replace the entire CV axle.
Been a lot of years ago that the right side CV axle was replaced so I’ll call oriellys and see if they still stock that same brand and get one for the left side too.

I would not use a CV axle from O’Reilly. What vehicle is this for?

1988 Buick.
NAPA was factory on axle and ball joint, plus at least a week out and postage stamps.
Oriellys will be here Wednesday He said, Unless Orielly is shutting down on Monday for some reason, usually its Tuesday after ordering on a Saturday.
Axle is Precision brand, same with ball joint.
Precision brand, in the past, has serviced me well.
Right side axle is Precision and was replaced in 2021 and still running.

We have changed a lot of CV boots over the years and have never replaced a whole shaft. I can't imagine doing it with only two hands though.
 
I read that google search, about the saran wrap, while at my friends, we both thought that was funny, but, would certainly keep dirt out of that CV joint.
Use the stuff they use for wrapping pallets. Much better than saran wrapping and much cheaper.
I wonder if you could put a piece of inner tube or rubber in after the first few layers and keep wrapping for awhile.

Then cover it with the suggested tape or something. I've seen that tape in wide rolls.
