I just used some 4-1/2” paint and rust stripping wheels on my angle grinder. With what did you strip them?

No worries, we've all had those moments, it certainly wasn't worth blasting you overNice ride.
I missed this part earlier when I asked about the spacers. I apologize for the redundancy.

Took the diff apart tonight. The stub axle had some slight grooving. It would probably be ok, but I decided to not risk it…..I found an open box stub axle on eBay for $100 and ordered it. Thanks for the part number @DieselAmateur, that saved me some searching. I’ll save the old one in case I need it in a pinch in the future for one that’s worn much more.
Ah. Sorry I didn’t mention that. I found out what you found after I bought the stub axle so I didn’t install it. It’s still sitting on the shelf.I know this is a somewhat old thread and the truck is no longer in your possession @n8in8or but I wanted to ask about the stub axle as I've learned some new information and am curious if it affected the truck at all.
So for the stub axle that I purchased and the part number that you used, that stub axle is for 2007 to about 2010/11 front diffs. The only difference is the location of the snap ring on the shaft. It seems you can't get the stub axle anywhere anymore for an 88-07. Everyone is selling the 2007 and newer stub axle as a replacement for 88 and up, the caveat being you need to also install a new spider gear kit with this stub axle.
I still haven't got around to installing my stub axle, but I measured it yesterday and it has the groove for the snap ring 16.98mm from the end of the shaft, or about 5/8". For the 88-07 stub axle the groove for the snap ring is 13.8mm from the end, or about 1/2". Small but noticeable.
Seeing as your front diff was a 96 (assuming original) did the later model stub axle fit? Or did you change the spider gears and just not mention it in the thread? Or did the later model stub shaft fit in the old diff without issue?
