When I got rid of my 6.5 (no complaints, overall was very good to me)
I got a 2004 DC Duramax, not exactly what I was looking for, but got
a very good deal on it - never was crazy about it, finally sold it...
and got more than I paid for it, so that's good...
Anyway, for now I'm back to octane ratings, not cetane...

Nice!!! A four door taco. What year/motor?

My brother has the larger model prior to the full size model. I don't remember the model designation,T-100, or ? I don't remember what motor he told me was in it. It was a 4.X V-8 and he gets in the 20MPG range with it, even with almost 200K on it.

Don

p.s.--yes, I'm a Toyota fan.

Why not? I enjoyed my 6.5, Duramax was OK, but didn't care for
it so much. When I bought the Duramax, I was looking for a
long bed, ext. cab, in a dark color. I ended up buying a short bed,
4 door, white truck. I got a good deal on it, and it was in very nice
shape, but I never really liked it. I Do really like this Tacoma though.
I don't have a need for such a large truck, gas is
cheaper than diesel, repairs / parts are cheaper....

Everything you are saying is the hard core truth. It dawned on me 2 weeks ago on a trip when I filled up my truck at $4.09 a gallon & the final bill was $110 bucs.

I luv my truck but when the difference between diesel & gas gets this large it's getting to be tough to justify. It's a hard pill for all us diesel junkies to swallow...

Good luck with yr new truck, looks very nice & practical...give us a reply after you get some time behind the wheel Tookie I would like to know what the avg MPG is & yr opinion after you have had it a while. thx for sharing.

Oh OK. I bought a diesel to tow our toyhauler. I know a guy that has my identical trailer and bought a new tundra and it gets about 7 mpg towing the trailer. So if your not towing I can see now why a diesel is not so practical. Keep an eye on your frame. They rust. Toyota might have addressed the problem on the new ones. Good luck. Glad you like it.

When I first got into Diesels, made good sense, diesel fuel was much cheaper than gas, and got better MPGs in
otherwise equal trucks. The Jeep I tow is around 3800#, and the trailer is maybe 1500# more, fully loaded I'm
pulling less than 5500#, Tacoma is rated for 6500# - plus I have the wifes' Tahoe, which will probably be the
tow rig on longer trips.
2 tanks of fuel so far, 18.4 MPG on one, 18.5 on the next - this was all on rural roads, no interstate.
It's nice to have 1/4 tank of fuel, stop to fill up and spend less than $50.00
So far I like it a lot - the only gripe is the steering wheel angle... it has tilt / telescopic, but the whole
column goes up and down, angle really doesn't change, and it's tilted forward more than I like.
I'll get used to it.

If it works for you Tookie (and you don't seem to need the heavy haul capabilities) then good for you that you got what you like and need.

Wouldn't be my first choice.. but best of luck with your new truck Tookie. Seems like you got something that will work out well for you and what you need.

My truck does what I ask it too and would not trade it for anything. :agreed:

But, why the hell is Diesel $0.48 more than gasoline?

Cheap gas here is $3.09 to Diesel $3.57. :WTF:

As long as the current POS of Administration is in office, pushing the liberial BS agenda of global warming, and bogus loans to solar/wind/ and subsidizing elc cars,, the fuel price will remain high. It fits in with them forcing us to believe their lie's. But by god or high water,, I'll buy as much fossil fuel and burn it to my hearts content as I can, and can afford. $3.99 diesel in my small town, but 8 miles north it's $3.66 and gas is $3.29

nice truck Tookie, ;) Rant off.

a barrel of oil makes about 19 gals of gasoline to 10 gals of Diesel/home heating oil.

True, but they can't make the gasoline without pulling the Diesel out....
the ULSD requirements are increasing the price of Diesel also..
If the price of Diesel and gas would have just remained EVEN, never mind
lower than gas where it should be, I probably would have stayed with the
oil burners, even though I had no real use for a full size truck.
But 10 to 15 dollars extra EVERY fill up adds up quick.

That is what I thought, we are getting ripped at the pump.
