Lets try this again, pictures posted pretty wonky.
Les called Friday night to set up our meet yesterday. After a few phone call and text exchanges we agreed to meet for breakfast and head over to Jake’s to help turn some wrenches on his Ted’s 506. Giving credit where credit was due, when I was talking to Les Friday night about the GTG plan it was his suggestion that instead of linking up at his uncle’s place it would be a better plan to go to Jake’s for wrench turning.
I told Les that was usually awake at 5am regardless of the day so call whenever he was ready to have me head to link up. I was up late and while I woke up at 5am to answer Nature’s screaming, I did go back to sleep. Les, who took me up on the ‘call anytime’ invite rang me about 0630. I saw his caller ID and said to self before answering the phone, “Sound awake, sound like you’re awake.”
So I headed over to his uncle’s place which was out of power because a transformer blew during the storm that morning that dropped 10” of snow on their place. I got a scant ½”…some guys have all the luck.

We stood around and got acquainted, showed him what all I’d done on the truck and was absolutely amazed at his ability to recall data, posts, threads, names etc as we talked. Often he’d say, “show me what you did when you were talking about (fill in the blank) on this or that that thread.” Loaded up a couple of the younger relatives with sled and small excited dog to take up the hill to the local school so they could get one last day, everyone hopes, of sledding. Afterwards we went to breakfast and talked a lot more. Turns out we’ve walked similar paths in Iowa as missionaries for our church, albeit a few years apart. I know, I look younger but I’m actually a little older than Les.
We then headed over to Jake’s to continue the GTG and help him a bit with his piston swap. Jake signed the oil can and I took a lot of shots of it but will post most of those along with detailed shots of signatures on ‘the can’ thread.
We did a lot more talking than wrenching but that’s the real point of a get together right.
Simon, Les really enjoyed your time together and I must say I wish I was able to be there for it. Then again, you’d have had more mouths to feed and I’m not intuitive when it comes to wrench turning as Les is. He can testify as to how inept I am as it seemed they were explaining a lot of stuff to me I should have already known.
Les, thanks for the time, it was a privilege and an honor to get to know you. Safe sojourn brother and I hope to get up there for the house warming.
