Another HID light post for 6.5's Make your truck look like it has factory fog lights.

Yes, look at post #16 2nd picture. Thats the HID and park light. On the other side of the HID is another turn/park light.
These will cast light to the sides better and give oncoming traffic more light to see you.
 
Judging by the shape of the reflector, the fact the HID isn't shielded, and the fact you can't aim those lights, I'd be worried they would be too bright for normal road use and would cause lots of offensive glare for oncoming drivers. I'd also be concerned about possibly melting the housings as they weren't designed out of as heat resistant materials at headlights are.

Gm did make factory foglights that fit below the bumper, and also have a airdam for them. My 88 has a set that I modified to accept HIDs and are properly shielded to not be offensive to other drivers.

I like the ideas your coming up with though, HIDs are a very versatile lighting that we haven't fully tapped into yet. Did you see my non-projector HID conversion thread for my 88?! I modified all of my forward lighting and used e-code housings with proper shielding to create a very usable light output that has a defined cutoff line and isn't offensive to other drivers

my pet peeve poorly aimed/unshielded hids. we drive in the dark alot up here. for those of us who are getting older and starting to suffer from the onset of night blindness it's like you can't see at all from the glare

I see your point. These could be offensive to oncoming drivers unless you took the time to shield them....ect
Out on a loan country road they would be good.
Dont think they would melt the housing though.
 
It figures, I got the LED parking lights like Mutava had on his rig. I'm thinking there's no way to modifiy them to accept this HID set up but I'm afraid (as is my wallet) to send mine to Leroy to find out different.:hihi:
 
I don't think the LED version would convert, so your wallet is safe this time. I do have your Metrum Rod FSU ready to go though.

Thanks for looking out for my wallet. And a real thanks for the service, time, effort and dedication plus taking the risk, calculated or not, to ensure the tail light mod would actually work. Looking forward to the upgrades. Saw the invoice and responded accordingly.
As for this HID mod, I'm not going to give up just yet. Although, I still have to install the HID kits a got off fleabay for the headlights and upgrade the wiring and do the the 4 Hi Mod....

I have been thinking, what do you guys think about this? The rough idea would be to remove the parking light and install one or even two sets of fog lights simular to David's/factory type. Maybe a pair of fog and driving light combo? That way their ajustable and glare is under control. Parking/turn sig's lights could be a LED strip/s.
It might be possible to mount a second head light assy there??
 
I've seen a set of headlights mounted down there before, i don't know how they were mounted though. It seems like a setup like that may be your best option, i'm not sure how else to make them look factory.

Personally I've never been a fan of the parking light next to fog lights style the S-series trucks had. I prefer them mounted lower as an actual fog light. As far as fog lights go, the lower the better to cut through the bad weather. If your going for more of a driving/flood light higher up is better.
 
I like the inovation and the functionality and yet my concern would be the visibility of the turn signals. Sending that amount of light at on-coming drivers, does the glare wash out the turn signals? Are the HIDs far enough away for the cornering signals to be seen?

My druther is to take them down below the bumper where they would be functional as a fog light. I'm thinking more of adapting a set of honest to goodness fog lights with the HIDs. They can then be positioned/aimed. Perhaps modifying the factory type air deflector(?) which, in my case, would already have the holes for the hooks so they would have to be cut again further out to accept them. There is already evidence that the PO did something electical under the bumper as there are severed aftermarket ground points on each end of it. So far, I haven't seen any power leads that could have completed a circuit out there and I haven't found anything in my manuals indicating a missing item either.
 
GM factory fog brackets with KC lenses and factory sport airdam. Easiest and most proper thing you can do. I have H3s in mine with a little creative shielding.

That's what I've been thinking of so far as the wind deflector / air dam lighting. I've seen the deflectors sold with the provision for either the 'tow' hooks or the fog lights. I like the tow ring set up you have though which would make for an easier modification than cutting out holes for the lights.

This has always been my thought, as far as fog lights go. I never had any problems with mounting after market fog lights on my F150 4x4, F350 4x4, or 01 D250 4x4, but with my chevy...which I think I've taken offroad more than any of my other vehicles, with the stock height w/ 275x75x16's, I've torn off 2 sets, and my passenger side front and rear lights keep getting bent/broken. I only use my fog lights with bad weather, where visibility is low, but can't figure out a good way to protect them...

Attached is a picture of my fog light brackets which I welded to my front hitch I made. But even now, they are still not protected from obstacles that I run through/into.

I have the factory sport air dam on my truck, it is pretty heavy duty.1512.jpg
 
Good looking truck Marty.
I seem to remember "back in the day" around 93-95 seeing the air dams at every swap meet I went to. They were all brand new take offs. Seems like some had factory tow hook and fog light holes in them?
