Any one else having issue with AVG running scans for 24+ hours? It will freeze the comp up some days and other it works just fine.

switch to Avira AntiVir...also free and works great.

Not the free, AVG internet security is a paid version.

Huh?
AVG Products SUCK now... they used to be OK for standalone PC's, but no more. Microsoft's Security Essentials is quite promising (and it's FREE!!).
Do you have any other antimalware programs running together with it?
If not:
1. Disable your AVG temporarily
2. Install, say, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (search for mbam free)
3. Update MBAM definition files
4. Run full scan (may need to reboot)
5. Restart AVG and try again
