Ok so I came across a thread on another forum that mentioned a condition (mostly 1/2 ton drivers) that had an issue with the frame bouncing over the concrete sections of freeway. Some reported it was so bad they couldnt talk without it sounding like they were getting bounced up and down.

Anyways. I was looking into it. GM has a Campaign #PIT3009J that was released regarding this. It only applies to Ext and Crew cabs, not Regular Cabs and its been called "Frame Beaming". Apparently they did some research on this and came up with a new ear body mount setup. Long Story short, I ordered them and installed them last night. Damn! it actually makes a difference. Below is the test pasted from the GM Campaign.

i know this was a big complaint with the 1500 trucks, but I think us 2500/3500 guys just assume thats how these are supposed to ride? I dont know. but I am extremely happy now. I have the Bilstein's and Sulastics from Nor-Cal Truck, and now this. Still a truck, but smooth and controlled like it should be.

""GM Campaign #PIT3009J: Suspension Vibration Or Frame Beaming At 40-60 MPH (64-80KM/H) - keywords front rear shake shock spring tire - (Sept 18,2008)""

Condition/Concern:

Beam shake vibration is usually felt and occurring at speeds between 40-50 mph (64-80 km/h). Hertz readings using an EVA tool are normally bewtween 8-24 HZ. This condition is most common on extended cab and crew cab models but has also been noted in other models.

Recommendation/Instructions:

The severity of the beam shake may vary from vehicle to vehicle. To determine if the concern is beam shake, please perform the following:

1. Test drive vehicle to confirm the condition. A beam shake condition will usually respond to concrete type pavements more than asphalt, so the vehicle should be driven over both surfaces if possible.

2. Place 200-500 pounds in the pickup bed between the closed tailgate and the wheel wells. A beaming condition should dissipate.

-----------

If the concern is determined to be beam shake, this a characteristic of the vehicle. GM Engineering has released updated body mounts to reduce this concern for the Crew and Extended Cab Models. There will be no changes made to the Regular Cab Models.

FOR CREW AND EXTENDED CAB MODELS, REPLACE THE REAR CAB MOUNTS WITH UPDATED PARTS LISTED BELOW. THESE PARTS SHOULD NOT BE USED ON REGULAR CAB MODELS.

New upper and lower mounts should be installed at the left and right rear cab position. The new LOWER mount is a two-piece design, meaning there is a rubber mount with a metal washer. Some models may use a one piece lower mount, meaning the rubber mount has a metal washer molded into it. If the vehicle has the one-piece lower mount design, washers (PN 15854745, Qty 2) will be needed to be used with the new lower mount.

Upper Mount 25791031 Qty 2

Lower Mount 25791032 Qty 2

Washer 15854745 Qty 2 (if needed)

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and ccomplete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
I installed mine last night and I am very impressed. If you have any questions or info, post up.

I didnt give it a chance. Received them yesterday, installed them last night with a floor jack and 4x4 post in about 45 minutes. I also installed the insulator for the front body mounts as I was getting a popping noise up there. All quiet and smooth now.

what year models will this work on?

I'd like to change the front isolators as well because I get a popping noise also...but it is only on left turns and braking (odd) I've brought it into the shop a couple times and no one can find the popping cause...this may be it...

From what I have found, it applies to all GMT-800's (ie. 2001-2007 classic).
The isolator/insulator is basically a flat thin plastic washer that goes between the upper body mount and the frame bracket. I assume its to allow the body mount to move a little without binding or sticking (hence causing the pop).
I also noticed mine when braking turning left usually into a driveway or something similar. No more noise now. I'll be leaving tomorrow on a 600 mile trip towing a 8000# trailer. So if it doesn't come back after that, I am going to assume its all good.

Body Mount Insulator GM Part # 15899719 (~$2.50 each) One needed per side. Some have mentioned they have the same pop noise from other body mounts. So you may need more. But most likely its just the front mounts under the A pillar.

I ordered mine through PartsZone Online along with a few other things. They seem to have better shipping rates than what I've seen on GMPartsDirect.

I'll see if I can find the GM article for this.

I did this about a month ago and it cut my passenger seat "shake" by about 90%. Truck is much smoother and dialed in nicely with my Sulastics and Monroe Reflex shocks.

Thanks...what were the prices for the new body mounts?

wow... partszone total before shipping for both upper and lowers + isolators (2@$2 ea) came to $118

Yea, when they First came out, I think for the Set the Price was like in the $50's, then I Ordered and it was in the $70's, I guess it's even more now.

$118 sounds in line with what I paid. I added a few other things on the order. so my total was a little more.

found my invoice. heres what i paid.....

Qty Item ID Description Unit Price Amount
2 25791031 cushion 27.00 54.00
2 25791032 cushion 27.00 54.00
2 15854745 retainer 2.68 5.36
4 15899719 insulator 2.36 9.44

Subtotal:$122.80
Shipping:20.00
Total:$142.80

the invoice was pending invoicing through paypal...

I upped the isolators to 4 and instead of $140 through partszone with only 2 isolators...

I got it all(what you ordered) for $133 through gmpartsdirect shipped

thanks for all the part #'s and help :)

All this stuff makes me real glad I have my old trucks, glad yall got a fix though!

Justin,

the only thing really messed up is the isolators($2ea)...the other "fix" is really a ride preference... if you didn't know it was supposed to be better you wouldn't even realize it...I would guess after climbing out of an old 3500 and into a new(er) 3500 you would be thinking they are a cadillac...and that's without the body mount fix...JMHO ;)

sorry Pepp, just in a real bad mood today. I need to get off here for awhile

go spend some time with the little one...

speaking of...got any recent pics? :)

wifey and little one are gone for a few more hours... ill have to get them off her camera when she gets back!:thumbsup:
sorry for derailing yet another thread
