We are out doing the camping/ boating thing this weekend. We actually got to leave early friday morning. We get to our campground(The crazy horse) in lake Havasu AZ. It is way hot, so when we pull in the first thing I want to do is get the AC"S going. Well just my luck, I plug into the 50 amp service and smoke galore! The friggen plug(mine) shorted inside and sent power the wrong way. Now I don't have one piece of electronics that is not fried. That is 2 tv's 2 dvd players and half my plugs don't work either. At least the ac still works!
 
Man, Tiny, that sucks. I always check the posts in campgrounds to make sure they are wired right, but that don't help when your own plug is fried.

Sorry to hear that, man. Good luck chasing all the problems through the system!
 
Sorry to hear that.

I hard wired in a Progressive Industries 50 amp surge protector W/monitor to hopefully prevent this type of thing from happening. I can monitor volts, amps, hertz, load, etc..from inside the RV now.
About $350 from Tweety's.com.
 
I think that would ruin your day real quick :mad2: Hope you get it taken care of..
 
Thanks for the all the kid words. We are home now, and trying to get this all figured out.
I have about half of my 110 outlets do not have any power. I am hoping this is the cause of all my electronics not working. I doubt it, but my fingers are crossed. I already know I need to replace the power panel. Maybe I will get lucky and one of the GFCI'S is toast and not all my toys. I will be checking to see if my extended warranty will cover this. It should cover some of it. The only thing that is up in the air is some of my upgrade electronics.
The real kicker is what caused the problem. The 50 amp plug had come loose inside at the trailer end. It is a 220v feed, and whoever assembled the plug must have a little girl grip. All the terminals were loose!
We did have a good time though, it was double hot! It got up to 115* I got up at 5 am one mourning and it was still 94*. I managed to get 9.2 mpg on the way there and 7.8 on the way home. This was pulling doubles and keeping the speed around 60ish. I traveled mostly in 4th and keep rpm's about 2000.

Oh and the good news. Something is killing the nasty ass carp in lake Havasu. They were floating and bloated all over the place. I heard it was going on down river also. I heard 2 stories about why. First one is that they are eating the tiger muscle's and it is cutting them up internally, and the second story is some dieseas?
 
Man, if those carp eat the tiger mussels, you need to export a pile of 'em to the great lakes!

I was staying at the AVi Indian Casino in Needles last week and the same thing. We went to Moabi and then down to the sand bar. Carp floating all over the place. Everyone is calling it carpies down there.):h
Glad you had fun and got home. My wife chunked two propellers in one day on the river. She's not allowed to drive the boat anymore.:mad2:
 
weel I just did a net search on the carp die off. Apparently they have herpes! I got in the water and did not wear protection! I hope I don't get it. It is said to be spreadin g down river from lake mojave. It does not affect any other species of fish. They should bottle that stuff up and sell it!

Pure diesel--- I love the Avi. That is where we usually stay. Sorry to hear about your prop issues. That is what jet boats are for. A buddy of mine has a pretty nice Carrera and did the same thing, but he got the out drive too. I think he had 8 grand in damage. The water is shallow in places around Laughlin, especially early in the morning when the dam gates are not fully open.
 
Sorry about your electrical troubles..but at least you had a/c and the trip turned out well.I live up in BHC so when I have off time Im outta here and head for the hills (cooler places if possible).Have done the river thing for 22yrs and honestly have kinda lost interest mostly because of water levels and congestion.

My thoughts are the same after this trip to Jim. I've never seen the water fluctuate that much in 24hrs before. The boat place in BHC by the Chrylser dealership was starting to get to know me on first name basis. I would rather go to Kathrines landing in lake Mohave or Lake Mead from now on.
 
That sounds very strange. It doesn't sound like one wire shorted to the other though. That would have tripped the campgrounds breaker. If some wires were loose, and your AC was working, I'd bet that the neutral was loose. I'm guessing this because the AC is probably straight 220, no neutral so would not be affected. Loosing the neutral on a 3-wire circuit will cause a higher voltage on one circuit/phase and a lower voltage on the other. If the load were perfectly balanced, it wouldn't make a difference. But if 80% of the load was on one side at the time that it was connected, you would have had 192 volts on one side and 48 on the other.

You may be correct on the nuetral. But the whole EFFEN cord pulled right out of the plug. I don't think the ac's are 220, pretty sure they are 110. It was doing all kinds of weird stuff. One ac would work and the other would shut one off/on. And they are divorced units. All is well now that I put the plug back together. Now I just need to repair/replace the carnage. The damage total so far appears to be the lower half of my convertor panel and one TV. I was just outside messing with it, and trying to find out why I only had power to some of my outlets. This is what I have come up with. The convertor panel is not switching over to "park" power. When I turn on my invertor I get power to all outlets. Which means, I suffered all dang weekend with no TV for nothing!
I am still trying to get an appointment with the local RV repair joint. I have the extended warranty on this beast. I hope I can get them to cover the cost for all my repairs.
 
Here is a bit of an update. I got out the ole' multi meter and got some stuff figured out. It seems the reason I have some dead outlets is because of my invertor. It still works but it has a pass through switch that is fried. If I turn it on I have all my outlets working. The total on the fried electronics is one TV and one DVD player. I have it at the local RV repair shop as we speak. It seems the warranty company won't let me fix it. We are planning another trip next weekend, hopefully all will be well this time. I also got a set of air bags for the truck too. Towed trailer one time so far, and what a difference the bags make!
 
Glad its getting fixed tiny. Electrical issues I hate, trying to track things, etc. Air bags make for an nice smooth, non dolphiny(sp?) ride. Have a safe trip. Where leaving Sunday to Don Pedro for 4-days.:D
 
OK it's all in the hands of the warranty company now. It is going to run about 380.00 for the TV, 300.00 for the converter, and 650.00 for the inverter. Plus labor for the install. I already replaced the DVD player in my bedroom. I got a crackin' deal from Best Buy. They were having a sale and I had 50.00 in "Rewards bucks" from a previous purchase, So I only spent 30.00 for that. I know the owner of the RV repair shop, so I will just take the cash for the TV and go and buy a flat screen to replace the huge old scoll regular one that was in there. I guess I might be able to get the lil' woman to let me go bigger. It had a 27" but I think a 32" is in my future. I will find out positively tomorrow on what the warranty company will cover. It had better be all of it, or I am going to scream at somebody. I am skeptical, that all of this will be done before our river trip we leave for on friday morning.
And we are taking our 4 legged kids too. This will be the first water trip for them. Should be interesting. we have a Viszla(Rusty) and we adopted/rescued a Boxer(Cooper).
Rusty should be good in the water, after all he is a "hunting" dog. But the only thing he huns is crickets. I'm not sure how Cooper will do, but he like to get in the shower if he can.

All is almost perfect. I worked out a deal with the RV repair shop, so no deductable. I am going to R&R the living room TV myself, so I got 300.00 cash for that. I am also going to R&R the inverter myself. The only problem is the inverter is not quite the same. You see, the RV place messed up and got the wrong one. It is the better model. The difference is the replacement one has a built in 40 amp battery charger. I thought the replacement price was a bit higher than I had looked up. I hate it when you end up with better stuff. Now I won't have to wait forever for the stupid little batery charger in the converter to charge the battery bank. The converter only charges at about 1 amp or so.
