Got an odd problem with my dad's '04 6.0 gasser. The other day it wouldn't start; completely dead in the driveway. Came back a few hours later and still wouldn't start. Then apparently he opened the door and the interior lights just came on, power was back and the truck started right up and ran fine.

Only problem being, the air coming out of the vents was hot regardless of the settings on the dash. He's got the manual climate control.

I pulled all the fuses for HVAC and blower and everything, which fixed it on the driver side (AC, heat worked per controls), but the passenger side is still hot.

Anyone ever heard of such obscure problems?

Not to that extent, but I have an '83 K20 that had electrical ghosts until we cleaned and re-connected the ground wires on everything that we could find.

Before we did that, it would just die while running (and I mean die, i.e. no spark, no ignition, no radio, no nothing), the running lights and dash lights would come and go, the A/C blower would just come on, the headlights would go out, etc.

Good luck in getting your dad's issues figured out.

There is an actuator that switches the duct reroute to select hot or cold air. I was told by the dealer that these can go out, my truck did this once and never has done it again.

It sounds like a couple of problems here. Check the grounds. The hot air only thing it most likely a bad blend door actuator. The auto and manual climate control both use them. They go bad quite offen once they are three to four years old. they will hang up and reset when the truck is shut off and restarted sometimes, other times they just die. They are a pain top change, but it is a DIY project.

When my AC stops working I unhook the batteries for 3 minutes and reconnect and everything works great. I am basically cycling the power to the computer or rebooting the computer. try that since you had a bad connection somewhere and you could have introduced something to the computer.

2 possibilities. 1. The result of a corroded connection on the negative post of the battery. It can be corroded underneath the rubber cap and you won't see it. 2. Bad cell in the battery. I fought this for a year on a pickup. Would act completely dead, 10 minutes later fires right up like it has a new battery.
