the new ones have light holes in them....the older ones didn't have room since the mounting bracket was in the way, and the new one has room to setp if you wanted too...I just step on my hitch and then up but I am also 6'4"

That's what I like about mine, it doesn't hang low, or overhang the front by a ton. It also fits right.
