Whats the gimick with running ATF in your fuel dose this crazyness really work to keep the injectors clean. . .

Mikey

Some claim it helps to clean/lubricate the fuel system, if its true or not, I dont know. I have seen a number of articles where people have run ATF as fuel with great success.

I guess i'll have to try it, But i'm sure there isn't really a way to tell if its doing any good any harm or anything at all i guess. ... .
I have also heard about 2cycle oil as well. it sounds like alot of wishful thinking. . .
But i'll try it.

worst case i'm out 5 bucks. . .

I don't know about other diesel manufacturers, but GM, Stanadyne & Bosch ALL say NOT to use any gasoline, engine oil, ATF, or 2-cycle oil in the diesel fuel for their engines & injection systems; they are NOT approved as additives for diesel fuel. They claim that they are detrimental to the injection system in the late model electronic injection systems. If you have any problem, they can demand a fuel sample to be analyzed and if the lab turns up any of those additives in the fuel, they could void your warranty.

These manufacturers also explicitly say NOT to use any diesel fuel additives that contain alcohol or water emulsifiers.

I personally do NOT recommend using anything that is not specifically approved by the diesel engine and injection system manufacturers to be used in their products.

I've been using Stanadyne Performance Formula for several years - in every tankful (ever since I bought my truck brand new) and I am very satisfied with it.

Ray you also have a duramax i have a 6.5 a 1995 6.5-T so as for a warrenty there ain't non. . .

Currently i don't i'd really notice another break down as it seems to having them 1 right after another. . .

All part of owning and old truck i guess. . .

If the stuff helps i'll be using it if it don't then i won't. . .

Be careful with fuel additives in the 6.5L, Some play hell with the opacity sensor.

I know. But the 6.5 was also made by GM and the injection system was made by Stanadyne. They have run millions of test miles @ the proving grounds and test fleets as well as thousands of hours in the labs. I would say that they know what is best for their equipment whether it's under warranty or not. I have personally seen countless numbers of injection pumps and injector totally F'ed up after running on diesel fuel with non-approved additives. That is my experience and my opinion is NOT to use them. I know many people claim that they have run that stuff for years and they had no problems, but they will not be paying for my truck to get fixed when something goes wrong, so I follow the manufacturers recommendations even if my truck were past the OEM warranty.

Every one makes their own decisions and takes their own risk. I wish you the best. :smile5:

When our engines were made we didnt have ULSD so the manufacturers didnt need to recommend jack. The 6.5 will run on anything you put in it, thats why they put it in the Humvee. Our electronic IPs are more sensitive than the manual one on the Humvee because of the Optical Sensor, but 2-stroke or ATF hasnt screwed with mine.

No need to be cautious with TCW3 2-stroke and several people use SAE30.

I agree. The 6.5L will run on most oils, including ATF and motor oil, but just be careful with the amount. 1 Quart of either per tank will not cause any problems, but when you start adding gallons you may run into problems. As with anything else, always best to proceed with caution.

Now what is the mixing ratios for this stuff ?
what dose it do for the motor ?

Well i wished i could have done away with my PMD all together but its so far holding together after a few more break downs. . .
Truck runs good just dosen't have much power really slow on getting up to speed. everyone is like run 2 qts of ATF next tank of fuel then start running a quart of 2 stroke after that. . .

I have put a quart of ATF in my 34 gallon tank before, dont think Id do more. It really did run well when I did it. Better than when I use two stroke, for 2-stroke, use TCW3, about 3/4 quart to 34 gallons.

little over half quart to 26 gallon tank.

Is TCW3 a Brand or a "rating"? Where can I find it? Thanks, Keith

Its like a rating, a certification process for "Ashless" 2-storke.

You can mix in ATF, but it would make more sense to mix in a cetane booster with 2-stroke.
