Ahhh, now I undestand why the P400 block is supposedly stonger and less suspectable to cracking in the webs. Beefy!

    Well, metallugy too....

Just a few pics I ran across while "googling"...

Thats that new P400 skirt you always see from the outside. Its just like what CIL6 was trying to make for his engine, a single skirt/main cap piece that went from side to side and all the way out to timing cover.

GEP is not selling even bare blocks as yet.

The forged cranks are now available from Peninsular diesel though.

Saw one of these at a local diesel shop last summer. Definately way kewl.
Light years ahead of the old 6.5 GM blocks for sure.

    Thanks for posting the piccy's

That single piece skirt/main cap could make some money if someone has the skills and tools to make things like that and and the custom oil pan to go with it.

Its one of those thing that even if GM didnt do it, why didnt someone else do it sooner? The Government would have picked up the tab to boot!

Whats crazy is looking at the connecting rod angles and its no wonder these things clatter and crack main webs

    Probably be useless anyways.

It appears from the pics that the main caps and webs do not have the cap "step" machined into them.

IOW, you'd never get it to fit the stock 6.5 block.

Also, if I was a betting man, I'd lay money on the fact that the pan rail is a different thickness and the block around it is redesifned to deal with the added stress. That's jusr a guess though.

I ran across the pics while googling "P400".

Oddly enough, it's in a gents dually (94 IIRC) from British Columbia, just across the water and down a bit from where I am.....

Well Im not saying you aint got the skills, and maybe you even have the tools. But there are companies out there making money off of selling 6.5 diesel parts and engines, with more resources and the business to do such things. It like how is it that we discover new things at all about these engines? Obviously the 6.5 enthusiast crowd did not exist so much until recent years. Or those that did didnt make their mark on the performance side of the house. They dont know as much as you give them credit for, or arent motivated enough.

Probably just trying to keep the damn thing from stalling!!!

There are a few heavy hitters within the last few years who have the know-how and the resources. Combine these with the new 'Performance 6.5' area, which is a TTS Exclusive, and there you go.

Most of the High performance people probably jumped direct ship to the D-Max and never looked back at the 6.5

Excellent pictures GW, thanks for sharing.

Beef is right, I wonder how much heavier it is?
