I am biased to the classic look, plus I have done my fair share of work on the old 53, 71 and 92 series Detroit Diesels.

What is the connection with Detroit Diesel and the trucks we drive?

Detroit Diesel performed the original design of the 6.2 and 6.5 engines.

Well now, I'm not really sure about that, although that is one of the histories I've been given, also.

What I had come to believe was that the 6.2 was originally designed by GM Engine back in the early 80s... it was transferred to Detroit diesel sometime after that, but as far as I know, it went back to GM when Detroit Diesel was sold to Penske somewhere around 1990, and then to Chrysler in the late 90s. When GM started their partnership with Isuzu, the 6.5 was sold to AM General and GEP.

Detroit diesel has always been more involved in the 60-series Jimmies, from what I remember... the 6.2 and 6.5 were Gm-designed and built from the get-go, something that keeps making people think they were a knock-off or build up of the old 5.7 Oldsmobile diesel.

The 6.2 and 6.5 were designed and build as diesels from the ground up, not as gasser conversions, a mistake people often make.
