I need the truck for work and can't afford the down time...so I'm going to pay someone to do it...after several high dollar quotes I called a friend and he got me hooked up with only $350+/- on labor add in the new airtex pump and incidentals and I should fall in around the $500 mark...Way better than the $900+ quotes I got from the stealer and a few other places...

so I'm headed to N.O. to get it done early am...

...wasn't where I had planned to go for the day, but it is what it is...I had an appointment to get the recall on my RV fridge taken care of for 9:30, but this is much more important... sometimes you just gotta prioritize...

Mine took a dump last year. I was able to get a better deal on the pump at a AC Delco parts store but I still had to pony up 700 bucks installed. It still hurts...:toothache:

just started leaking...there is a few drag racers using the airtex pumps...so they are just as good imo...

on the rebuild this winter I think I'm going the electric route and eliminate the huge labor costs for a 10,000 hour rated inline electric pump...

Your supposed to replace the crank bolt also. Just fyi:) Thats an awesome deal on the labor. Its a lot of work to get to it.

I hope the guy you have doing it has the crank holding tool because the crank bolt is dam near impossible to get off with out it. Its 36mm 12pt and takes a 3ft bar plus certified pipe extension to make it about 5ft total.D

Joe,

I have the balancer bolt from my rebuild parts with me... along with all the gaskets that may not come with the water pump...Henry recommended using black rtv on some of the o ringsfor the rebuild...I have it written down on the bags...

I did some reading on dp from toms water pump replacement thread...some people save time by not removing the starter and going through the inspection plate to hold the flywheel while cranking the balancer bolt both on and off...I also brought my degree tool to help in case his torque wrench doesn't go high enough...Whatwas the torque spec again 290#?

That spec is pull as hard as you can and then do it again:).

I have never tried to do the inspection plate deal. We have the tool here and I use it. I will have a look though maybe it will sve me some time also. You will need the water pump rings, the bypass tube oring, the cross over manifold gaskets, if your not to lucky then you will also need the upper pipe oring. If you need anything call me. you got the number.

well it's fixed and running and I'm ecstatic with the overall job and especially the price...walked out the door only spending $508 for everything...more than fair IMO...

Joe...it's a new(meaning not reman'd) airtrex pump... over on pats site there are few guys drag racing with those as replacements without issues so far...so I am confident it will last until I pull this motor...I just wish I hadn't needed this just for the fact that I will probably go with a stewart 55gph electric pump on the rebuild...
