I have a friend that has an 06 (bought in Dec 05) Dodge 2500 Cummins that blew the transmission last week. The truck has 46,000 miles on it and has barely passed the warranty on it. It does have a programmer on it but it hasn't been taken to the dealer yet. What happened was his friend tried to get it unstuck (how else would you find a Dodge :D ) and gunned it in one spot for 30 seconds or so. He's looking right now at a $3200 rebuild and i was wondering if there was any way to get it fixed under warranty. It has had a rebuild before as the result of a previous accident from the body shop but to my knowledge the dealer hasn't seen the truck.

If he takes it to a dealer what are some things that he might want to do? The major questions being the warranty and the programmer he has on it. I don't know much about dodge trucks, a Chevy guy myself :D

Thanks
Joel

What kind of programmer?

Contrary to what some of the manufacturer's will advertise, all of the programmers are detectable, as long as the tech knows what to look for.

I wanted to try this on my truck just to find out, not like I'm worried about warranty.

The stock tranny is only good for about an extra 40 - 60 hp. It he had the thing cranked up, he was living on borrowed time.

Personally, I think he's eating this one............I'd be raping my buddies wallet for being dumb.

Thread shoulda been titled: Typical Dodge owner's friend, eh................

I'd pull the pan, see what resides therein, if nasty then rebuild the trans myself to RAMZILLA specs from PATC - or, get a good aftermarket version with hi perf T\C, such as PATC, Suncoast, Goerend, etc

The only thing he can do is clean the truck up, remove the programmer and play very dumb. He doesn't have anything to lose at this point...

Really, he's screwed any way you look at it.

If the warranty is up, Dodge is gonna tell him to pound sand.

A new tranny will run him around $3700.

Personally, me, you're up in Michigan so I'm assuming your buddy is as well, I'd be calling NADP and getting a built tranny.

A quality rebuild with Kolene steels and frictions, billet band and strut, aluminum piston, a decent TC, billet input and valve body is gonna run him around $5K.

If you are running ANYTHING over 60hp on a 48RE, those are the minimum upgrades you want.
