Anybody else here trying to make a living as trailer transporters, and I say "trying' because the fuel prices are cutting deep into my profit:doh:.

I got out of it in Apr 07. I was transporting RV's, horse trailers, boats, etc.. I used a broker and had my own authority. I worked for an RV transporter in IN for about 3 months and realized I would go broke faster doing that than I would hauling for myself.

Fuel prices were just part of it. Maint., food, hotels, insurance, etc. cost more than they want to pay. I was getting a fuel surcharge, all of it unlike some places. The base rate is just to low.

The manufacturers are going to have to pay more and the RV transport companies are going to have to pay more or they won't have anybody working except the ones that just want to do it for travel. Until the drivers refuse to drive for the petty mileage rate things will never change.
