Thin block

I saw this on a FB page, notice how thin the block is where it broke.

Another contributing factor is how deep the cylinder is bored, way to deep for no good reason.

This is a lat block with the 10mm outre bolts.

I think splayed caps on a not already cracked block will prevent this.

Curious if the engine was still running when the guy pulled it. Knocking I'm sure, but I thought the cylinder bore was all the way down and were one could pull the pistons out of the block from the bottom. this block looks as if it was bored way too much. I have not studied the engine that much to see if the pistons would clear pulling from the bottom or not.
