Well fellow 6.5ers, the yukon made it to 216000 miles before dying. Pulled the crossover pipe off the exhaust, and cranked her over too see if the flywheel was making the grinding noise (which it was but due to the engine hydrolocking) but got shot by coolant out the pass side manifold. shes gonna be sitting til after i get taxes back tho. weirdest part is that there was no sign of anything going wrong with the engine. i jus went out to start it the other day and it started to grind so i left it alone till today...:mad2:

To have any chance of reviving the engine it needs to be taken apart now. If the coolant is allowed to be in the cylinders it will rust very badly. It may be just a blown head gasket. Most blown head gaskets are caused by the wonderful tty[junk at best] head bolts.

well the plan right now is to start tearing down on one of my days off next week (maybe take a personal day to have an extra day) and see the damage. hoping for just the gaskets. if it is just the hg then i will go ahead and fix her, but in the meantime im going to look at a 02 suburban for cheap

i got a question for you guys tho. i was on advance auto's website and saw that edelbrock apparently sells headbolts for these engines. under the description it says they are made by ARP. has anyone used these??? they're $100 for the set but im kinda curious as to how well they really work.

ok, disregaurd the previous post, they do not make head bolts for the 6.2/6.5. But the good news is we got the heads off last night. P.O. apparently put bars leak in the truck at one time due to a slight HG leak on cylinders 2 and 8 (1 bolt at each of those 2 cylinders was coated in the bars leak). ordering everything today and hoping to have the truck back together soon.
planning on studs, .010 thicker gaskets, duratherm glows, having the injectors all tested and reset to around 2100 psi. Thank you everyone here for all the help, this is why everyone loves this site.

Working on it, gotta strip the heads down today or tomorrow and send them to the machine shop to have them magged and pressure tested, also having them make sure the mating surface is flat while taking as little material as possible. will keep you guys updated. i miss driving my baby around.

I miss driving mine all the time too, i only drive it when i need to plow, trying to save the last of the body from salt till i can replace it all.

Thats why im fixing mine, the body has virtually no rust on it. and only very mild surface rust on the frame. Its even still got 3 original balljoints on it at 216k miles(and yes they are still tight... lol)

I actually have 1 remaining original ball joint. Ive replaced 3 so far. On a plow truck, with 227k. Im going to make mine exactly what i want it to be. Its a lot cheaper than buying one.

Sucks that she died, good to see she's gonna be back on the road soon.

BTW, just curious, where are you located at?

alright guys, got a slight update, the studs, gaskets, upper end gaskets showed up today. hit the dealer and picked up their headbolt sealant, and the tailshaft bushing and seal for the transfer case. and tomorrow im taking the heads to the machine shop. good news is that from what i can see there arent any cracks anywhere but tomorrow will tell me for sure

hey guys, need some help. upon disassembly i discovered that my driverside exhaust manifold is severly rusted to the point that where my crossover pipe connects is about to break. if any of you guys have one that needs a home please let me know. just PM me with a price and shipping costs.
