Rust!!! Not where I was expecting either.

Replacement which came outta the 95 I pulled the optimiser out of.some rustoleum rusty metal primer which I power dried. After I put it in I'll spray another coat on it.

Never seen that before Les, they must use a lot of salt.

Not near as much as some places. I'm just now starting to get some rusty spots that need attention on the body. Normal stuff like bottom of the doors etc. My aluminum running board corroded thru where the steel bolt goes thru, makes me wonder if it was acting as an anode rod. Lol

I've been oiling for years. I've kind of slacked off the past few years and rust is hitting our house too

Galvanic corrosion on your running board from two dissimilar metals. One way to help prevent it is to isolate the metals from contacting one another. This is difficult to do, though.
