Been snooping for a replacement tailgate switch for the K5 Blazer

This switch has been discontinued by GM and I am not finding any in the aftermarket.

Anyone know of a replacement available

This is the dash mounted switch

Same switch used in 82-91 Burbs too.

There were a bunch of K-5s in one of the junkyards up here about a month ago. I was there this past saturday and only one was left. Didn't see a window switch in it, but i'll keep my eyes out for one.

Found a few burbs there as well, but most were torn all to hell, and some i couldn't even get in since they were so badly smashed up.

LMC doesn't have one?

LMC should have it although don't expect fast shipping. They suck. I have been waiting 2 weeks for fuel tank straps that were "in stock"
GM used to be great with parts and kept stuff available long after. I don't know if the Obamamotor takeover had something to do with it's demise or just the bankrupcy itself but they suck now.

Called all over yesterday and NO GM shop has that switch.

GM discontinued it back in Jan 09

OHHHH I did find one at a NEW OLD STOCK place in Chicago $50 plus shipping

I dont think so.

Today is Bone yard day and I will bet that I can scare up the switch.

Its a simple 3 spade switch and there are loads of after market rocker and toggle switches with momentary each way and off in the middle that will work.

I would like to have the factory switch is all.

I may end up rewiring things a bit and use a Heavy duty toggle type switch instead.

Today I am off in search of a 89-91 core support and grille. May see if I can scare up a clean dash pad and some door panels that are nice.

Never know what the bone yard will yield.

I will check in later with the results of the "shopping trip"

Missy

That page refers to the parts IN THE GATE
The switch I need is mounted in the dash panel about the middle.

I did find one at the bone yard thats in good working order.

I will post the rest of todays activities on my other thread (Missy's crusade)

Yup, Beat that one for almost all day on tuesday trying to sort it out.

Nice part is that its just a Momentary On--Off--On switch with the center spade hot and the two end ones to the Up and down leads.

Easily replaced by a heavy toggle switch.

I want to relocate : the stereo ??? (as yet dont have one) into a little fabricated box of some sort that will bolt to the Hump, along side the 4x4 shifter.
I may relocate a toggle switch in a more handy place in that little "Box" along with sitches for the as yet to be installed roof mounted "HOT" lights.

Loads of options and it can be done later just before I install new carpet.

I want to install a rear "roll cage" in the truck too when I have the top off.

Looking now to scrounge one up.

Electrical stuff for these vintage rigs is definately getting tougher to find.

I have ended up with two complete "Diesel" gauge clusters that are in fine working condition.

My trip yesterday to the bone yard was aweful.

Lovely 90 Burb sitting there that some puke and taken the gauge cluster apart and then smashed all the gauges and left them strewn around the rig on the ground.

Lovely door panels ripped off and thrown in the mud.

Pukes just walk around and smash stuff just because its there.

I hate seeing things destroyed because people are either just too lazy to take things apart correctly or they dont care.

So much of these older parts are being wasted and the stuff in many cases can't be replaced.

ya it sucks when idiots go in destroy everything that was just fine, because their either to lazy or stupid to do it right. try finding the 90/91 OBS dash bezel. that's a challenge. if you want to make it even harder find one that's a diesel. it took me 2 years to track one down without paying a fortune for it.

Try and find the nice wood grained finished ones from the fancy Burbs.

Got one yesterday that was near perfect for $20.

Still looking for a dash pad.

Thats could be a problem. May have to go with a new one from LMC

You ain't kiddin. The moron that owned my Burb hack the one in it all apart to put the radio in. Last swap meet I found one on a tanble in mint shape for 5 yankee dollar. I nearly ripped my pants trying to get my cash out so quick. I gotta be real careful to cut out for WTS and WIF lights. Have not figured out how to cut it yet but I will practice on the old one first.

when I did mine it of course was from a gasser. I ended up drill a couple of holes and using a tiny drum sander to smooth it all in. what a PITA.

I almost forgot about that 'wood grain' finish

Yeah I was thinking drill then dremel. I have a mini air sawzall. I may cut the hole smaler with that then file or dremel to exact size.

Put some masking tape over the area, then lay out the hole with a pencil and a small straight edge.

Drill a 1/16 hole at all four corners, then drill a 3/8 hole in the middle.
Using a small saw blade, cut diagonally from the center hole to the coners one at a time.

Now work the center out to clean the hole up.

Once the hole is getting close, use a little dremel with a bur of other small tool to finish squaring up the hole.

Just cut to the lines and your set. I have done a few of these over the years.

Just looked at a couple dash panels I have, one with the hole and one without. That imprint is a bit larger than the actual hole.
Just be careful when you cut it out so you dont make it too big. OOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPS.

OK good to know. I probably wouldn't have thought to measure it. Parts are getting ridicoulous for these trucks. The parts guy at the Dealer said basically what happended is when GM went bankrupt they f'ed alot of the parts vendors that they get the suff from so alot of stuff is going to be discontinued and thre rest will reappear but expensive. The Pickup tube for my Burb is 350$ from GM, 200$ from LMC. Screw that. I'll make one. I have an Airdog one from a Dodge.
