Hey,

Been doing some research for upcoming oil changes. We have decided to go synthetic on our MF 1523. We are going with Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W40 once the colder weather hits come fall, but was looking at Mobil 1 to run during the summer, and it appears they do not sell a synthetic diesek grade. All of their heavier 10W30 & 15W40 are for gasoline engines. What are you all running?

http://www.shell.com/home/Framework?siteId=rotella-en&FC2=/rotella-en/html/iwgen/products/zzz_lhn.html&FC3=/rotella-en/html/iwgen/products/product_rotellasynthcj4.html

Warranties are nice to have, so we want to be careful.

TIA.

I run Shell Rotella-T 5W40 synthetic year-round.

Mobil DOES make a diesel grade synthetic oil. Mobil Delvac 1 and Mobil Turbo Diesel Truck are 5W40 Group IV PAO full synthetic oils. Actually, according to Mobil, they are the same oil, just packaged in different cans for different markets.

You don't need to wait for cold weather to run synthetic oils. In fact, synthetics are much more stable than dino oils across the temperature spectrum.

Thanks Ray. We only have 15 hours on it since the last change, ( 78 hours total, bought at 63 - so dealer did 50 hour service for free. )

How does the Rotella synthetic 5W40 hold up in the hot humid weather, compared to 10W30 or 15W40?? ( warranty if anything goes wrong, not that it will. )

Rotella synthetic 5W40 is working fine for us. I can't see any reason for warranty issues. The engine specs are typically written with dino oils in mind. Synthetics are much more stable.

If you are still unsure, the best thing to do is to contact your dealer and ask the question directly. Preferably get the answer in writing.

Good Luck.
