I have a 04.5 lly with 103,000.00 miles on it. I noticed lately that when I start out cold for a bit, it has a pinging or knock to it much like the pinging in a gas engine with low octane gas. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what was the fix for it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

not really a common complaint i hear. it is probably a rattle more than a ping your hearing. fill out your signature in the user cp section with the details of your truck and mods so we can help you out better. if you are bone stock try running some power service fuel additive through it for a few tanks to see if it helps.

Thanks for the reply, it's stock except for the MSRP dual cat back 4" exhaust and a Diablo Sport Predator tuner for tire size adjustments. Will try the additive as you had mentioned, just want to make sure that I'm not causing damage to the motor. I do haul a 10,000 pound camper from time to time.

try additive. if it doesnt get better feel free to contact me and we can meet up to have a look at it. hows the milage?

Milage appears to be the same, just got additive last night and full tank of fuel. Will let you know soon, thanks again for the help.

He's referring to a blocker plate that keeps the EGR from recirculating into the intake. If you do a search on "egr blocker" you'll find lots of reading to explain it. It also requires a "finger stick" which is a small circuit that fools the ECM into thinking the egr is working and prevents a code from being thrown.
