working on a 99 silverado with a 4.3 and a 129,000 miles. this is a misfire code-crank sensor ,-cam sensor.
can it run with one of these bad? this truck runs great but the check engine light is on and it is driving me nuts.
I also have read the the distributor gear goes bad but I don't know for sure.
any direction or help would be great.

Check ur Camshaft Positioning sensor wires.

A loose CMP sensor causing a variance in the sensor signal
Excessive free play in the timing chain and gear assembly
Incorrectly installed distributor - 1 tooth off in either advance or retard positions
A loose distributor rotor on the distributor shaft
A loose or missing distributor hold down bolt
An intermittent may be caused by any of the following conditions:

A poor connection
Rubbed through wire insulation
A broken wire inside the insulation

thanks, I will start looking at these.

I just went through this with a 5.7 vortec. The previous owner had installed the distributer wrong. Using a scanner I was able to read that my cam retard was -15. It should 0 plus or minus 2. I installed the distributer and set the cam retard(adjustable on the 5.7) to -1
No more codes.
