Hello all, I plan to take a day off to go to local junk yard to remove a NV4500 from a 96 crew cab truck. I dont want to carry all my tools so I need to findout the socket sizes i will need along with other speciality tools to remove drive shafts and NV4500 from truck.

Appreciate any help !

Extensions. A thin wrench to get on the studs behind the nuts.

Get the starter and brace while you're there. Slave cylinder.

Get the whole clutch and flywheel.

Be careful. Those transmissions are heavy. There's know way I could get one at a pick and pull by myself

Is there an option of them pulling the engine and trans together? And buying the whole lot?

Welcome to TTS!

While collecting parts from the NV4500, chances are good that the bellhousing will have a crack. Might not see it until after a good clean. So, have a backup plan of sourcing a new unit.

15mm deep socket on a 6-12" extension. Regular/ thin wall, not impact rated size. There's one or two lower bellhousing bolts/ studs where only the deep thin wall will work

A ratcheting 15mm box end wrench is super helpful for the upper bellhousing to engine studs. Even better if it's a flex head. There may be a few 13 mm nuts on the bellhousing studs securing fuel lines or wire loom to the stud.

The bolts for the driveshaft U- joint straps are somewhat small. 5/16" comes to mind but pack along a 3/8 and metric equivalents just to be safe
