hey guys,

with ongoing projects, and future engine builds, I need a way to shuffle motors around dads shop, if they arent in his way, I get space, but once they get in his way, he starts complaining, so I need a way to keep the projects mobile.

I think I want one good one to do actual engine work, and one or two cheapie ones that will just be for storage.

What weight rating would you recommend for a fully dressed 6.5L? would 1,000 lbs or 1,250 lbs work, or do I need to go to 2K lb rated? I am mostly looking at ones from jegs and summit, but neither advertise made in USA, so if anyone knows of an affordable USA made one, I would be interested.

thanks!

yeah, but we dont have any anywhere close, and me and harbor freight have issues concerning tool quality. :)

Anywhere close to a steel supplier?.. Or a welder? Both?

Engines can be built on a bench too. The fanatical performance guys claim that a traditional engine stand distorts the rear section of the block/cylinders.... Don't know how 'true' this is...

sorry, damn dialup, I was just responding to dieselcash.

after looking around, I am not finding anything made in USA, so I might try out my horrible welding skills. :) might even get creative on the rotating portion, a hub and spindle from an old piece of farm equipment may work, and will turn rather easily.

I am looking at one or two of these for just general storage of project engines, should hold up at 2k rating, and has the flipup legs for compact storage when no engine is on.

If you do not like HF then screw'em.

I say go for the one at summit racing, looks good and it folds!

That summit one looks pretty decent. We have an old steel engine stand we bought for $50 at an auction, but it needs new wheels and I have NFC where all the hardware is for it... If/when I do decide to work on the engine for my 67 I'm going to invest in one with the geared rotator drive, not just a bar in the pipe, lol.
