I'm going to look at an '06 LBZ with 110,000 on the ODO. What kind of things do I need to look for? I've heard of the T-case pump rub issue, but what else?

You know, that T-case issue does not effect all trucks. I'm on my 2nd DMAX and I never had a problem with either of them. I wouldnt get all bent out of shape on that.

3rd generations put down the most power of all the generations, to include the 4th gen LMM's. Considering the LBZ's and LMM's are identical, the only difference being all the additional smog crap on the LMM's.

So far, I've heard about EGR failures but there are TSB's out for that. Intermediate steering shaft can cause problems but thats an easy fix and has plagued all the generations of these trucks. EGR valves are hit or miss. Easy fix for that is to block it, retune it and call it a day.

These generations will put down 300-330 h.p. and 550 tq to the wheels, bone stock.

Some of these trucks are getting good mileage and some dont. Evidently, no two are the same.

Look at the passenger side manifold to see if there's an EGT probe in there. Thats a sure sign that they had gauges or were running some kind of tune.

Check the transmission cooler lines. They are prone to leaking.

Good call. I forgot about that.

Re there any red flags to watch out for on the trans? I have never had an allison equipped truck, so I don't know what the shifts should feel like. What's this hub thing?

No red flags. The cooler lines tend to have weak seals and they leak. Its not a bad leak, just a constant wetness. It isnt really a big deal.

What hub? Where did you hear that?

I've read somewhere about the front hubs or bearings wearing out? The steering intermediate shaft was replaced at around 50,000, the PCM was reprogrammed at about 16,000.

Can you get the vin and run it here? That'll tell you everything that's been done to it.

I've never heard of front hubs or bearings wearing out.

I did, not much except what I posted already, and a front bumper realignment (15619 miles) and impact bar replacement (14,726). The PCM was reprogrammed with SPS at 15619, I'm assuming that was the glow plug issue?

Could be anything. Any repair that the dealership does, they generally update the ECM since there are always updates coming out. I know they updated my ECM when I had them replace my steering shaft. I think that updating the ECM is standard practice, regardless of what you brought it in for.

Have you driven the truck yet? I wouldnt be afraid of those miles at all.

Sounds like Unit453 covered everything I'd look for as a possible "problem area".

Little things to add would be slow window regulators, bent or weakened tailgate handle rods and a gauge cluster lights that don't work.

Also, don't be shocked at how low the oil pressure can be at hot idle, 30 ish pounds is not off normal at all.

No, it's in CA, and I'm still at home in AZ. I'm going to set up a time when I go back to work in CA. I just want to have all of my info straight before I get there. If everything goes well, I was thinking about 16,000 as a fair price. It' a CC LB 4x4. It has leather and most of the goodies.

as asked...

Yes...Front wheel bearings are a common problem on all these trucks I replaced one side at 40k the other at 50k...

and the biggest tires I've run are 285's...

Thank you everyone for your help, I have decided to beef up my truck a little more and not spend all of that money. My truck almost does everything I need it to do now, I think with a few more mods I can get it there, and save a metric butt load of money. CC would have been nice, though.
